ABOUT THE ROLEThe Environmental Compliance Manager oversees the execution and compliance of environmental programs, permit execution, and risk management during the pre-construction, construction, and operations phases of a utility-scale portfolio of projects spanning solar and energy storage. You will oversee and ensure all environmental project deliverables are managed, implemented, and executed for full compliance.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Liaise, as the Construction lead, by helping to coordinate environmental planning, permitting strategy, and environmental risk management activities across a portfolio of pre-construction and construction projects to ensure constructable and compliant projects.
- During the pre-construction phase, coordinate with Development and provide support for environmental workstreams to support project schedules, pre-construction objectives, and portfolio growth targets.
- Provide pre-construction and construction support to assist with environmental permitting strategies and approval pathways that optimize project success and reduce pre-construction risk.
- Provide leadership and oversight to internal Construction environmental colleagues and external environmental consultants during construction and operational phases of the projects.
- Develop environmental budgets, forecasts, and consultant scopes of work while managing environmental expenditures during the construction and operational phases of the projects.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, permitting authorities, and environmental stakeholders during the construction and operational phases of the projects to ensure continued compliance.
- Advise construction and operation leadership on environmental risks, permitting challenges, regulatory risks, and project constructability considerations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate risk mitigated environmental requirements into project construction planning.
- Assist Pre-Construction and Construction with coordination and review of environmental studies, permit applications, environmental assessments, and agency submissions.
- Develop internal standards, processes, and best practices that improve compliance of permitting and environmental risk management during construction and operational phases.
- Escalate and resolve complex environmental issues that could significantly impact project schedules, costs, or construction outcomes.
- Support executive presentations, investment decisions, and project approval processes by providing environmental recommendations and portfolio-level insights.
- During construction and operations, monitor environmental regulations and industry trends to proactively identify business impacts and opportunities.
- Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
- Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental planning, biology, ecology, natural resources, geography, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in renewable energy environmental permitting, compliance, or environmental consulting, or related.
- Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
- Skills/Attributes:
- Strong knowledge of environmental and cultural permitting including, but not limited to, NEPA, USACE, SWPPP, AQWD, CUP, SUP, SPCC, and FAA requirements and their impact to construction and operations.
- Ability to establish environmental compliance strategies for Construction and Operations that support portfolio objectives and long-term project success.
- Experience evaluating environmental regulations and advising construction and/or operational leadership on regulatory risks and opportunities.
- During pre-construction, construction and operations phases, ability to direct environmental due diligence efforts and integrates environmental risk considerations into business decisions.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with environmental consultants during permitting efforts to create robust and construction sensitive plans to prevent budget and schedule challenges.
- Ability to resolve highly complex environmental compliance and construction execution
- Ability to collect, analyze, and report on EHS data.
- Strong ability to communicate environmental strategies, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
