Enterprise Architecture Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the development and implementation of Consumer Cellular's enterprise architecture framework. This leader collaborates with key stakeholders to align business strategies with technology solutions, ensuring that CCI's IT infrastructure supports its goals and objectives across cloud, data, AI, security, DevOps, and operational domains.
The Director will analyze current systems, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategic plans to optimize technology resources. They will provide leadership and direction to the enterprise architecture team, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget - while developing a team culture built on transparency, growth, and innovation.
This is a technology leader who spans all aspects of the engineering stack: AI and ML, modern data platforms, cloud architecture, engineering practices, design patterns, security, DevOps, and operations. The ideal candidate brings 15-20 years of engineering depth, a genuine passion for emerging technology, and the startup mindset to drive adoption fast.
You will need to reside within 50 miles of our Corporate Headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ as this role has the option of hybrid or onsite. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Architecture Leadership: - Lead the Enterprise Architecture team in researching solutions, evaluating designs, improving systems, and building a team culture of transparency, professional development, and innovation.
- Develop, evolve, and lead Consumer Cellular's technology strategies, governance model, and drive the Modern Data Platform strategy, architecture, and roadmap.
- Create and implement clear architectural guardrails that empower and encourage the team to operate autonomously.
- Establish and design centralized standards for the SDLC process, tools, technical debt management, SLAs, and technology stack decisions.
- Oversee the evaluation and selection of technology solutions and vendors to optimize Consumer Cellular's IT Infrastructure.
Data Architecture & Modern Data Platform: - Define and measure the data capabilities required to support business, technology, and data strategies.
- Partner with the CDO, Enterprise Data Enablement, and Enterprise Data Platform teams to develop and implement the Enterprise Data Strategy.
- Develop and maintain policies, standards, procedures, and patterns for data solutions.
- Continually evaluate new and existing data capabilities and technologies - including Data as a Product, Data as a Service, Data Mesh, Data Virtualization, Delta Lake, Lakehouse, and Data Fabric architectures.
- Define architectural patterns, solutions, and controls for data pipelines, data integration, data transformation, analytics, reporting, and modeling (including AI/ML).
- Architect cloud-based Modern Data Platforms with hands-on expertise in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Snowflake, and equivalent cloud data technologies.
AI-First Architecture & Innovation: - Drive innovation by evaluating and accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies - including AI, ML, and generative AI- while nurturing and optimizing existing technology investments.
- Lead the design of AI-ready infrastructure: model deployment pipelines, MLOps platforms, LLM integration frameworks, and agentic AI governance.
- Actively scan the startup ecosystem to identify emerging AI tools, platforms, and architectural patterns with near-term adoption potential for Consumer Cellular.
- Ensure AI is embedded by design across customer-facing products, internal tooling, and operational systems - not bolted on as an afterthought.
- Leverage and promote AI productivity tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to optimize team performance and operational efficiency, in alignment with CCI data privacy and security standards.
Cloud & Enterprise Systems Architecture: - Own the cloud architecture strategy across Consumer Cellular's multi-cloud environment (Azure, GCP, AEM)- optimizing for performance, cost, resilience, and developer velocity.
- Define cloud-native architectural patterns: containerization, serverless, platform engineering, and self-service infrastructure.
- Architect solutions covering multiple geographies and ensure architectural decisions support global scalability and availability.
- Lead architecture reviews for major new initiatives, acquisitions, and third-party integrations.
Team Leadership & Mentorship: - Lead a team of architects to design and maintain the enterprise architecture framework, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Data Solution Architects, division Data Architects, and Data Engineers.
- Build a high-performing architecture function through coaching, career development, and clear performance standards.
- Demonstrate a high degree of creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to lead in a matrixed team environment.
