Full Job Description
Position Purpose:

The Enterprise Architect Sr. Principal (Business Architecture) is responsible for guiding business architecture design and adoption across multiple portfolios, product teams, and principal architects. Sr. Principals accelerate decision speed and investment quality through domain expertise, architectural leadership, and by communicating standards and reusable patterns within their assigned IT portfolios. They define and steward the connective model that ties customer and associate journeys, value streams, business capabilities, and end-to-end processes to the solutions, applications, and data that realize them - so that portfolio decisions are made against a shared, traceable view rather than slide-by-slide narratives.

They will be a key contact point across a large portfolio for engaging principal architects, product managers, and business partners to foster shared language, model literacy, and adoption of enterprise standards. They will interface with 3rd party vendors to ensure THD's business and architectural needs are met - evaluating vendor capability coverage against the enterprise capability model, identifying overlap with existing investments, and driving interoperability and data-sharing fit within the existing technology landscape.

The role will typically support 4-6 portfolios or capability domains (contrasted with 2-3 for a Principal and 6-10 for a Distinguished Architect), spanning a variety of business functions, products, and shared platforms.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Deep fluency in business architecture disciplines: capability modeling, value stream mapping, journey mapping, and end-to-end process decomposition, plus how they map to application and data architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across business, product, and engineering leadership, and to hold a position under pressure while remaining open to better evidence.
  • Experience with EA and process tooling (e.g., LeanIX, Signavio) and comfort working with the underlying data through APIs, queries, or automation rather than manual upkeep.
  • Strong written communication - able to produce a one-page decision artifact that an executive can act on and an engineer can implement against.
  • Experience evaluating vendor and SaaS solutions against enterprise capability and integration standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 50% Delivery and Execution - Leads portfolio level Principal meetings to maintain alignment, consistency and knowledge sharing; Creates and architects foundational code elements that can be reused across a portfolio; Develops POCs with new technologies and paves the way for portfolio adoption; Tracks and monitors efficient usage of cloud resources and drives cost reduction opportunities and enhancements
  • 10% People - Acts as a point of escalation for teams facing extremely complex challenges; Presents at and attends conferences and learns how to apply new technologies and concepts; Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports; Conducts annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback; Attracts, retains, develops, and motivates top talent
  • 15% Strategy and Planning - Works with a Distinguished Engineer to define technology solutions (open source or vendor) teams should be exploring and/or leveraging; Works across local teams to unify strategy and alignment; Identifies and removes potential roadblocks & bottlenecks across large cross-functional projects and initiatives; Participates in and influences development of technology roadmaps within a given portfolio; Drives thought leadership and innovation within a given portfolio
  • 25% Support and Enablement - Point of escalation for high-priority issues and outages as they arise; Fields questions from project, product, and support teams; Helps solve technology disputes across local teams; Works with vendors to help identify and implement feature enhancements in software products; Evangelizes successful usage of tooling and technology with local teams.
