Job Summary:

Nova Biomedical is seeking an Engineering Technician, Group Lead to supervise a team of engineering technicians responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading gantry systems, filling systems, dispensing systems, and other equipment used in the production of Nova Biomedical consumable products. The primary objective of this role is to minimize equipment downtime, support efficient manufacturing operations, and drive continuous improvement through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization.

This position combines hands-on technical support with leadership responsibilities to ensure the timely completion of maintenance activities, effective resolution of equipment issues, and compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of engineering technicians supporting production equipment.
  • Assign and prioritize work to ensure timely responses to equipment issues and production needs.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to engineering technicians.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting of dispensing gantry systems that use camera-positioning systems.
  • Ensure rigorous daily and weekly maintenance of dispensing systems and associated equipment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment, including:
    • Laser and plasma etching units
    • Dispensing equipment
    • UV curing stations
    • Microscopes
    • Vacuum ovens
    • Pneumatic presses
    • Laminators and drying ovens
    • Filling and bottling equipment
  • Review tools and fixtures for wear and coordinate replacement and improvement efforts with the machine shop.
  • Escalate equipment issues and coordinate with equipment manufacturers regarding technical support and service requests.
  • Partner with Engineering to implement new tooling, fixtures, programs, and processes.
  • Update manufacturing and equipment documentation as required.
  • Establish and maintain equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Support employee training requirements related to new equipment, processes, tooling, and maintenance activities.
  • Lead daily and weekly reviews of equipment issues and downtime to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics and implement proactive measures to improve equipment reliability.
  • Develop and maintain equipment downtime metrics and reports.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate with Manufacturing to minimize production impact.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in alignment with production schedules.
  • Establish and maintain spare-parts and component programs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Support Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification activities, as well as other engineering-led initiatives.
  • Ensure maintenance and engineering activities comply with applicable SOPs, GMP requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational high school education or an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining equipment in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • One to three years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to respond efficiently to equipment and production issues to minimize manufacturing delays.
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing manufacturing systems such as dispensing equipment, gantry systems, filling or bottling equipment, ovens, presses, laminators, microscopes, and related equipment preferred.
  • Experience supporting preventive maintenance programs, equipment performance reporting, spare-parts management, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of SOPs, GMP requirements, and documentation practices within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to coach, train, and provide day-to-day direction to engineering technicians.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Able to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift and carry up to [25• 50] pounds as required.
  • Comfort with performing repetitive physical tasks.
  • Able to bend, reach, stoop, or climb as needed.
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., noise, temperature, equipment).
  • Proficiency in operating tools, machinery, or technical equipment.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.

Work Location: Onsite in our Waltham facility 5 days/week, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Targeted Salary Range: $43 - $47/hour
