Eaton's CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Engineering Specialist - Energy Transition and DC Systems.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $122000 - $179000 a year.

What you'll do:

Eaton Research Labs (ERL) is currently looking for a Engineering Specialist to join our energy transition and DC systems team in Golden CO. If candidate is not located within a 50 mile radius of Golden, CO relocation will be considered. We are looking for an experienced candidate in one of the following areas: Specialty 1: AI/ML based energy systems design, controls, and optimizations; or, Specialty 2: DC technologies related to data center and EV charging applications.

The ERL is a corporate R&D function within Eaton's Chief Technology Office, responsible for innovative and breakthrough technology development and commercialization for Eaton products and service solutions. The Engineering Specialist will report to Senior Global Technology Manager and help identify key technical gaps and influence technology roadmaps for Eaton's products and services.
Job Responsibilities:
• Serve as a domain expert and leader in research, technology development and demonstration.
• Perform as project lead with responsibilities to ensure technical flow, track on project milestones, coordinate and mentor project team members.
• Lead and contribute to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs.
• Lead and contribute to government proposal preparation and project execution.
• Play a pivotal role in fostering business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events, acquiring resources, and funding.
• Execute essential functions in cultivating external partnerships and aligning with outside technological advancements.
• Develop as an industry recognized subject matter expert through active participation in conferences, seminars, standard bodies, and relevant industrial/academic consortium meetings to drive Eaton's innovation leadership.
• Lead and contribute to IP generation through authoring/co-authoring disclosures and patents.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus
• Minimum 9 years of industrial/entrepreneurial experience after Master's in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in AI/ML for energy systems or in DC system design and control technologies.
Or
• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus
• Minimum 4 years of industrial/entrepreneurial/academic experience after Ph.D. in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in AI/ML for energy systems or in DC system design and control technologies.
• Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
Preferred qualifications:
• Background in energy systems, including power systems, renewable energy, and control systems.
• Expertise in using control theory and digital control techniques for power converters and grid connected systems.
• Experience using hardware in the loop (HIL) platforms, or real time simulators, for controller testing and validation will be a plus.
• Adaptable, eager to learn emerging technologies, and capable of bridging theory with practical implementation.

Skills:

Position Criteria:
• Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality technological innovations in the relevant areas.
• Verifiable strong experience in one of the following technical areas:
• Specialty 1 (AI/ML for energy systems) - Demonstrated strong experience in two or more of the following topics: AI/ML algorithms for energy systems controls and optimization; scalable data structures and design framework for AI/ML; LLMs and agentic AI; surrogate modeling; MLOps; high performance and distributed computing systems; digital twins for controls.
Or,
• Specialty 2 (DC technologies) - Demonstrated strong experience in two or more of the following topics: Model based design for DC systems; control of DC systems; hybrid AC/DC or DC system protection; data center system modeling and control; DC data center system architectures; DC microgrid/distribution systems design.
• Collaborative orientation. The ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented environment.
• Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in dealing with management, employees, customers, and suppliers.
