Job Description

US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED

Minimum $10,000 Sign-On Bonus being offered for external hires.
Our spacecraft solutions team works in a fast paced, highly collaborative development environment to provide continuously evolving capabilities in space payloads and bus power products. As electrical engineering lead, you will manage a team of electrical engineers through the program life cycle to develop electronic products for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.

What You'll Do:
  • Provide technical leadership for a multidisciplinary system team (optical, mechanical, focal plane, power, thermal, RF, software) including suppliers to create, influence and define discriminating electronics solutions involving electro-optical imaging, mechanisms, thermal conditioning, payload control, mission data processing and power including DC-DC converter designs and products for power distribution.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in space-based electronics systems and components to include focal plane interface electronics, power electronics and power conversion, single board computers, high precision thermal control including cryo systems, and FPGA based controllers.
  • Lead resolution of electrical hardware anomalies at the system level and determine root cause and corrective action at the engineering development level and with flight hardware.
  • Compose objective, quantifiable trade studies incorporating heritage system designs as well as new technologies and supplier capabilities to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems.
  • Electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down leveraging, DOORs, MBSE, and various other system engineering tools.
  • Maintain end-to-end electrical compatibility, functional allocations, and margins across entire system
  • Hands-on involvement in every aspect of design, development, production, and test.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design phase.
  • Present analysis, findings, and design to peers, internal management, and customers throughout program phases (Proposal, IBR, SRR, PDR, CDR, IV&V).
  • Mentor junior engineers in mission understanding, electrical subsystem technologies and concepts.
  • Develop electronics to quality and reliability standards for NASA, NOAA, DoD, and classified customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Technical competence in all of the following areas: ROIC photodetector arrays, motor drives including 3 phase, voice coils and steppers along with associated feedback including resolvers and encoders, general analog circuitry for thermal control, telemetry gathering and transistor biasing, FPGA closed loop control, DC-DC conversion and power distribution and harnessing along with strong grounding knowledge and EMI background
  • Robust problem solving, decision making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure skills (dedication to close open items/issues) to ensure mission success
  • Solid presentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to widely varying audiences.
  • Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change
  • Working knowledge of interface and design documentation, such as functional block diagrams, PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills
  • Experience through the entire system lifecycle from concept, design, production, integration, test, launch, to operation support.
