Full Job Description
Purpose: Varies The Engineering Manager is responsible and accountable for executing the strategic objectives of the engineering department while ensuring operational efficiency, quality deliverables, and team performance. This role requires strong leadership, business acumen, and the ability to identify process improvements that drive productivity. The Engineering Manager oversees multiple engineering functions, including tower and small cell design, outside plant fiber design, and make-ready engineering, ensuring timely and accurate project delivery for internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of engineering professionals, including direct reports across multiple specialized functions.
Partner with the Director of Engineering to develop resource and hiring strategies aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
Oversee recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management for engineering team members. • Understand current and future project scopes and develop resource allocation and process plans to support seamless execution and cross-department collaboration
Ensure the quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of engineering deliverables for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Identify and implement tools, technologies, and programs that improve departmental efficiency and support strategic sales objectives.
Lead the implementation and rollout of new systems or processes, ensuring proper integration into existing workflows.
Evaluate, select, and manage subcontractor partnerships to support project execution and scalability.
Develop and track departmental budgets, maintain utilization targets, and oversee invoicing and billing processes to ensure timely revenue recognition.
Maintain a safe and compliant work environment, ensuring adherence to all company safety and quality standards.
Achievement of project delivery timelines and quality standards.
Utilization and productivity metrics within departmental targets
Successful recruitment, training, and retention of engineering staff.
Budget adherence and on-time invoicing/billing.
Efficiency gains from new tools, processes, or workflow improvements
Client satisfaction and repeat business metrics
Internal: Frequent collaboration with executive leadership, project management, construction, sales, and field operations teams
External: Direct interaction with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory or permitting authorities.
Requirements
Physical Requirements: • Primarily office-based role with regular use of standard office equipment. • Occasional field visits to project sites and customer locations required. • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs if necessary
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Project Management, or a related field preferred Experience: • 7+ years of experience in engineering, fiber design, or telecommunications infrastructure, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role. • Proven experience managing cross-functional engineering teams and delivering complex network infrastructure projects. • Strong understanding of engineering processes, resource planning, and project lifecycle management. • Experience with subcontractor/vendor management and budget oversight.
