Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with SmartNICs.
  • Experience managing multiple teams and leading managers to build productive and efficient teams.
  • Expertise with C/C and Linux.
  • Expertise with NICs and embedded software development lifecycle in general.
  • Passionate about ensuring things work well end-to-end, and values a generalist software engineer perspective to ensure this happens.

Software Platforms for IPUs and Network Interface Cards (NICs) (SPIN) team enables networking and offload capabilities for Google and Google's cloud customers. SmartNICs/IPUs provide novel hardware acceleration and enhanced security isolation properties for Google's workloads. Our team is responsible for software that runs on Google's entire fleet of NICs, and as such is engineered to be highly reliable, performant and efficient. You will have an opportunity to work on the bleeding edge of SmartNICs with this team and deliver software with tremendous impact to Google and its customers.

The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud's mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities
  • Advocate the technical strategy for the complete NIC pipeline team, ensuring architectural soundness across all elements, working with various teams within SPIN as well as partner teams in PLANET like Promethium, RDMA, Pony/BaMM2, etc.
  • Define and uphold end-to-end performance and reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to ensure smooth interplay across components within the pipeline.
  • Lead cross-team efforts to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues affecting the pipeline's operation.
  • Ensure the readiness and stability of the NIC controlplane and the overall pipeline for new NIC NPIs.
