The Engineering Manager leads a team of software professionals responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality technology solutions. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful project execution, continuous improvement, and the development of a high-performing engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership
- Define and maintain the technical strategy, development roadmap, and risk management approach for assigned projects and initiatives.
- Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, and best practices to promote quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Guide architectural decisions and oversee the implementation of software solutions that align with business and technical requirements.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, tools, and methodologies that enhance development effectiveness and product quality.
- Ensure engineering teams adhere to established software development and quality assurance practices.
Team Leadership
- Build, develop, and retain high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Provide regular coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support employee growth and career development.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and goals while empowering teams to take ownership of outcomes.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development efforts to strengthen organizational capabilities.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with stakeholders across technical and business functions to align engineering priorities with organizational objectives.
- Manage project plans, resource allocation, schedules, and delivery commitments to ensure successful execution.
- Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Support planning, estimation, budgeting, and strategic initiatives by providing technical expertise and informed recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2+ years of technical leadership or people management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting complex software systems and applications.
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, or similar object-oriented technologies.
- Familiarity with contemporary software engineering practices, including version control, automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, monitoring, and agile development methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical and operational decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
- Regular communication and collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Occasional travel may be required based on business or project needs.
