A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Manager I – Estimating Engineering – Wind/High Voltage, you'll lead and develop a team of engineers responsible for delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions for utility-scale wind energy projects, as well as high voltage facilities for solar and energy storage. Your day is centered around People, Projects, and Processes—coaching and mentoring engineers, guiding project execution, and continuously improving engineering practices that support successful project delivery.
You'll collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Estimating, Integrated Supply Chain, Construction, and Owners to ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, on schedule, and aligned with project objectives. From initial RFP to project award, you'll provide technical and organizational leadership by removing obstacles, setting priorities, monitoring team performance, and ensuring engineering quality, constructability, and client expectations are consistently achieved.
As a leader, you'll establish team goals, develop performance metrics, support career development, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while helping deliver some of the nation's largest utility-scale wind energy projects.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Oversees the team's contribution across the full engineering lifecycle from pre-construction estimating and bid-phase design through project award, design delivery, construction support, and closeout — emphasizing schedule conformance and prioritizing the largest financial impacts at each phase.
- Delivers designs that provide the most economical solution to satisfy the power plant's design requirements. Collaborates across company departments, vendors, and outside engineering firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, and increase efficiency.
- Manages and maintains safe utility-scale engineering design practices that comply with Owner, Company, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Provides guidance to Lead Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Engineer I/II staff as they support both projects, engineering design and estimating-phase deliverables.
- Supports technical review and vetting of new equipment, products, and materials. Coordinates with Supply Chain, Estimating, and Construction for approval.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor of Science degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited college, or relevant equivalent industry experience, required.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent credential is required and must be obtained within one year of hire if not already held.
- Seven or more years of progressive engineering experience in a related energy or construction industry (e.g., civil/structural, electrical, power generation, or utilities), including demonstrated leadership experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Position is estimated to require travel up to 25 -50% of time, subject to fluctuations based on project and business needs.
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- Strong understanding of utility-scale high-voltage systems, including substations, transmission lines, collector systems, switchyards, protection and control, and utility interconnections.
- Experience supporting utility-scale wind projects during the estimating and preconstruction phases, including engineering scope development, quantity validation, constructability reviews, and technical proposal support.
