Salary Range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00

The Role
This posting is to support the Proposition & Reactor Engineering Planning Yard (PREPY) Operations Technical Services and Governance Support Group. This senior engineer is expected to lead efforts related to process integration with NAVSEA governing requirements to support in-service overhaul and modernization, process improvements for carrier new construction, and facilitate LDY responsibility turnover to Waterfront Engineering. As a senior staff representative of PREPY, this position requires interfacing with NAVSEA customers, Newport News Shipbuilding managers and senior staff internal and external to the PREPY.
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
• Familiar with FORD Class Propulsion Plant lead design yard (LDY) and carrier planning yard responsibilities and organizational structure.
• Have knowledge of shipbuilder contractual requirements, FORD Class Ship Spec and select Project Peculiar Documents, such as the Deliverables Approval Procedure.
• Have knowledge of in-service overhaul and modernization governing requirements
• Familiar with Navy Nuclear customer structure (NAVSEA 08, NNL, Public Shipyard, etc.).
• Have excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
