The Health and Safety (H&S) Engineer will be responsible for providing safety support by identifying and resolving related issues and initiating continuous improvement programs in order to achieve GoalZERO performance while assuring business continuity at the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV (LKO JV) and the Polypropylene site (LLO). This position will be focused on safety and health regulatory compliance and GoalZERO culture. Assess and communicate the implications of occupational safety and health regulations to employees and contractors. Develop and implement cost-effective compliance solutions.

Work with Corporate Occupational Safety and Health network to develop and implement Best Practice solutions to safety and health regulations and issues, and to capture synergies through the development of H&S processes and systems.

A Day in the Life
• Owns, supports and provides action plans to the site's safety programs and OE systems (standards, directives, advisories and LFEs).
• Collaborates closely with the safety department and site teams to support daily operational challenges.
• Subject Matter Expert (SME) to one or more of the Life Critical procedures.
• Able to effectively manage multiple tasks, but also able to delegate tasks which can be performed by support personnel or other professionals
• Works independently and with peers to identify, plan and complete work that has a positive impact on worker safety and health protection
• Develops, implements and provides training on safety and health policies, procedures, work practices and their supporting programs.
• Develops and performs safety and health audits / assessments to ensure compliance and to sustain GoalZERO performance.
• Evaluates, coaches and resolves questions related to planning for and executing field work activities safely.
• Leads, participates in and supports incident investigations as necessary.
• Develops and recommends business driven and cost-effective strategies.
• Responds to unannounced agency inspections with confidence. Develop systems to retrieve supporting documentation with confidence and ease. Interact with agency inspectors in a manner that minimizes negative impacts.
• Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
• Review/approve MOCs and participate in capital projects risk evaluation and recommendation.
• Leads and/or participates with onsite committees (i.e. employees and contractors safety committees).
• Oversees site safety digitization initiatives and innovative strategies, such as e-permitting and auditing systems.
• Partners with supervisor to support professional growth, personal development, and long-term career planning.
• Participates in the rotation of the weekly callout schedule on behalf of the H&S department.
• Support the site during emergencies and/or EOC activation.
• Provides support during turnarounds and outages as needed.

You Bring This Value
• B.S. or M.S. degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years relevant safety and health experience in a petrochemical facility or related industries.
• Must have in-depth knowledge of safety and health regulatory compliance programs associated with the chemical manufacturing industry.
• Experience developing and/or managing safety and health systems.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to help the HSES Department, Operations and other functional groups implement those process changes or procedures necessary to comply with the regulations and requirements.
• Able to communicate across multiple levels within the site and in different group settings.
• Ability to represent company with regulatory agencies
• Broad perspective; applying specific concepts and tools throughout multiple processes
• Ability to Listen for understanding
• Ability to manage multiple high priority timelines with non-linear priorities in a self-directed environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred
• Experience leading teams or directing employees is preferred
• Technical writing experience and proficiency is preferred
• Excellent problem solving and team work sk
