Engineer In Training, Mining

Location: Logan Lake, BC, Canada
Employment Type: Regular Full Time
Workplace Type: On-site

About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent, Integrated Planning, the Mine Engineer supports the development, optimization, and execution of short-range production plans and/or drill and blast activities. This role is intentionally broad to support either a Drill & Blast Engineer or Short-Range Planning function, depending on team alignment and internal progression.

The successful candidate will contribute to safe, executable, and optimized production plans by integrating operational inputs, maintenance constraints, and value chain considerations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and optimization of short-range integrated production plans and schedules.
  • Assist with drill and blast design, sequencing, pattern QA/QC, and inventory management.
  • Analyze operational, maintenance, and production constraints to support executable plans.
  • Monitor plan performance, KPIs, and reconciliation against actual results.
  • Develop and maintain 7+35-day integrated production plans across mine, mill, and maintenance functions.
  • Prepare and communicate planning packages, schedules, and updates to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Geology, and Processing teams to align priorities and resolve constraints.
  • Identify risks, improvement opportunities, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure planning activities align with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Support ore blending strategies and metal production objectives through integrated planning and analysis.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • Eligible for or registered as an EIT or P.Eng.
  • 3-5 years of experience in open-pit mining, production planning, or drill and blast (preferred)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary operational environments
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Pay Range: CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Working Conditions:
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
