Jensen Hughes has a job opportunity for an early-career to mid-level Fire Protection Consultant with a sprinkler systems background. This position is based in our Burnaby, British Columbia office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience and exposure to automatic sprinkler systems and fire pump design.
Responsibilities:- Manage fire protection maintenance and inspection schedule
- Review design drawings for sprinkler systems, fire pumps, special suppression systems including foam systems and others as necessary
- Plan and direct engineering activities with a high degree of contractor engagement
- Act as the owner's representative for fire protection systems on site
- Regular site walks to verify fire safety and code compliance
- Support emergent needs such as witnessing testing, commissioning, systems reviews, code support.
- May need to be on call 24/7, on occasion
- Prepare and present technical reports for the client
- Assess and approve contractor work costs and bids
Minimum Requirements:- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering is desirable or experience with fire sprinkler system contractor, or applicable experience
- P.Eng registrant in the province of British Columbia and/or Alberta
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience of Fire Protection System Design with emphasis on automatic sprinkler systems, fire pump design and foam systems
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 13, 10, 16, 25, 20,
Preferred Qualifications:- NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Certification is asset
- Proficiency in the use of SprinkCALC, HydraCALC or similar
- REVIT design experience is an asset
- Knowledge of FM Global Requirements as related to fire protection is an asset
- Successful candidates will have excellent report writing and interpersonal skills
- Ability to present clear and technically sound fire protection engineering strategies and have good communication and negotiating skills
- We will also consider candidates that have significant industry experience in fire protection and code consulting but are not on the engineering track
- Ability to make decisions within a reasonable time frame
- Ability to travel 15% - 20% required
