Job Description

Are you an experienced hardware engineer looking to design next-generation technology for aerospace and defense applications? Join BAE Systems' Space & Mission Systems team and work on advanced RF, LiDAR, antenna, and electronic systems supporting mission-critical platforms across the air, land, sea, and space domains.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to take hardware from concept and circuit design through simulation, prototype development, laboratory testing, environmental qualification, and integration. You'll work across analog, digital, mixed-signal, FPGA, power, and control circuitry while collaborating with systems, PCB, software, and other engineering disciplines.

Our Electrical & Electronic Solutions team develops innovative technologies that give warfighters the ability to detect, identify, communicate, and respond to evolving threats. If you enjoy solving complex hardware problems and seeing your designs move from the lab into real-world mission applications, we'd like to hear from you.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

What You'll Do:
  • Design and develop digital, analog, and mixed-signal hardware for advanced RF, LiDAR, antenna, and electronic systems.
  • Develop board- and system-level circuits, including FPGA-based architectures, microprocessors, ADCs/DACs, power supplies, and control circuitry.
  • Perform circuit modeling, simulation, power analysis, signal integrity, stability, reliability, and risk assessments.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering to translate system requirements into hardware architectures and detailed designs.
  • Collaborate with PCB/PWB engineers on schematic development, layout, packaging, and design for manufacturability.
  • Bring designs from concept through prototype development, laboratory testing, environmental testing, and qualification.
  • Use laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, pulse generators, and current probes to troubleshoot and validate hardware.
  • Support rapid R&D and technology-development efforts, helping transition innovative concepts into mission-ready products.
  • Design hardware capable of operating in demanding tactical environments, including temperature, shock, vibration, and EMI/EMC constraints.
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams developing technologies for aircraft, ground vehicles, ships, and space platforms.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education.
  • Experience with digital, analog, and FPGA electronic circuit design, electronic systems, as well as related software.
  • Hands-on test experience in a lab environment using test equipment such as a DMM, oscilloscope, pulse generator, current probe, spectrum analyzer, etc.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across electrical, systems, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines.
#LI-LB3
A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with power systems and mixed signal design.
  • Designing for tactical environments (temperature, shock, vibration).
  • Experience with FPGA and software development.
  • Familiarity with OrCAD CIS for schematic design.
  • Experience with Hyperlynx for signal and power integrity analysis.
  • Experience with Matlab, PSPICE/LTSPICE, Mathcad.
  • Solid grasp of EMI/EMC concepts including system level grounding and shielding.

This position will be posted for at least 5 calendar days. The posting will remain active until the position is filled, or a qualified pool of candidates is identified.
