Job DescriptionBAE Systems is looking to add a few Mechanical Engineers to our Engineering Production Support teams at our York, PA, Aiken SC, and Sterling Heights, MI or Anniston, AL production facilities to provide Engineering Support to various production programs. These candidates will serve as an interface between manufacturing, design and production engineering for evaluating and resolving problems related to the design and fabrication of mechanical subsystems, assemblies, and components. These candidates will support design related change notices and variance activities.
This position is part of our onsite Engineering Production Support (EPS) team. The position would be ideal for a Mechanical Engineer or Electro-Mechanical Engineer interested in manufacturing and problem solving.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Review and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.
- Support program and vehicle production on 1st shift by being the Engineering Point of Contact for technical design issues or concerns as they arise in the production environment.
- Work with Operations production support to create Problem Reports detailing engineering related issues with items in production, liaising with Integrated Program Team (IPT) to develop a solution.
- Maintain the Variance control process for production related variations from the technical data package (TDP). This includes obtaining Internal and Customer approval for subject Variances.
- Develop timely, complex and non-complex solutions to problems and coordinate effective "fixes" through Variances, standard and non-standard repairs and configuration notes.
- Assist in assigned special projects and/or process improvement teams to improve work effectiveness and relationships between Design and Production (e.g.: improve Configuration Management of TDP and Re-man Drawings, develop and implement design change work flow processes within configuration management and engineering data management systems)..
- Recommend design enhancements for the system, subsystem or component design to the design engineering group.
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives, policies, and rules.
Required Skills and Education- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline (typically mechanical or aerospace engineering) plus 6 years relevant experience; or a Master's degree and 4 years relevant experience
- Experience creating or analyzing moderately complex mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferably PTC Pro-E or CREO
- Ability to solve complex technical design and development problems that require a professional level of engineering knowledge
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Knowledge of finite element analysis tools and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Ability to conduct root cause and impact analysis
Preferred Skills and Education- Experience supporting engineering in a prototype or production environment where weldments, fabrication of machined parts, and assembly and integration of subsystems is performed.
- Experience working with military ground vehicles.
- Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
- Knowledgeable of the Manufacturing and Configuration Management System.
- Familiarity with CREO.
