This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong skills in data analysis, interpersonal communication, and project management. The successful candidate will work directly with energy team members to develop energy, water, and greenhouse gas/carbon emission strategies and initiatives to support our commercial office and industrial real estate clients.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team that is spearheading greenhouse gas reduction programs for major national clients in the real estate sector. This position may require coordination directly with our clients; therefore, they must have superior communication, writing, and presentation skills. The position also involves producing high-quality deliverables including technical communication through graphs, tables, and presentations to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead in the development of energy saving strategies and the identification of energy efficiency measures and emissions reduction measures for existing buildings using spreadsheets and other tools for calculations of energy/cost savings and return on investment.   
  • Preparation of preliminary cost estimates for recommended measures.
  • Perform ASHRAE Level I & ASHRAE Level II Energy Audits in existing buildings.
  • Support retro-commissioning of existing buildings.
  • Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, building automation systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing.
  • Understand energy efficiency and sustainability ordinances and associated requirements for various cities and states, including but not limited to NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago, Saint Louis, Denver, California, and Philadelphia.
  • Understand commercial building HVAC systems and emerging high-performance alternatives systems that may be used in energy retrofits.
  • Review ARCH and MEP drawings for existing buildings and systems.
  • Support the capabilities of Cushman & Wakefield and managed buildings to apply for utility or other local incentives.
  • Provide written technical and non-technical reports for program compliance and ownership review.
  • Support your project team working on client engagements. Function well when working in interdisciplinary teams that include technical and non-technical staff.
  • Regularly review own project deliverables for quality, ensuring the work is accurate, on time, and on budget while meeting the client’s needs.
  • Proactively participate in business development efforts to grow Cushman & Wakefield’s ESG practice.
  • Help shape the trajectory of Cushman & Wakefield’s ESG practice—one of the fastest-growing areas of our business—with lots of opportunities to grow as a leader, expert, and mentor.
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience developing decarbonization strategies—including energy efficiency, renewable energy, green power procurement, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and carbon offsets, preferably in commercial real estate.
  • Passion for deploying decarbonization solutions to drive rapid adoption of clean energy and sustainable practices across the U.S. economy
  • Comfort with managing data-driven tasks in Excel and other software platforms, including some complex calculations and estimation methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Ability to lead internal and client meetings.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to effectively review and generate reports, graphs, and presentations.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • A self-motivator with a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to Travel up to 12 days per month.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field (math, engineering, or science) or related work experience. 
  • At least 3-5 years of applicable work experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or BCxP.
  • Direct experience in energy, asset, and/or portfolio management within the commercial real estate industry.

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.


The compensation for the position is: $ 85,000.00 - $100,000.00
