Full Job Description
Duties:
The EMS Senior Technician will assist the EMS Supervisor in the duties and perform field work to help maintain the district HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The EMS Senior Technician will work with the LAUSD technical quality support team (TQST) to repair and maintain the HVAC DDC front end EMS and use them to encourage preventive maintenance, identify potential energy conservation measures, and suggest facility improvements.
  • Assist with HVAC Controls Design and Submittal reviews
  • Assist in reviewing utility data and energy usage to identify schools for recommissioning and retro commissioning
  • Assist in reviewing EMS and energy data, and alarms to identify no cost/low-cost energy conservation measures
  • Assist in the review of EMS, energy data, and alarms to identify preventive maintenance measures
  • Perform site visits to investigate as built conditions on identified projects
  • Implement low-cost to no-cost solutions or alternatives to projects/repairs of EMS systems at existing school sites
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems
  • Respond to basic warranty calls
  • Calibrate systems requiring basic electronic test equipment
  • Assist in managing In-House Commissioning Projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements
Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years' professional experience in building controls or a related field
  • Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC maintenance issues
  • Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.

Required Education:
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's or associate degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, information technology)

OR
  • 10.6 Two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electronics-related studies with additional 2 years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with multiple controls manufacturers including Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane
  • Proven ability to debug installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases
  • Experience supporting installation personnel and other contractors on project sites
  • Extensive experience in performing or assisting in performance of commissioning of EMS
Salary dependent on education and experience. Salary range: $95K-120K
