Full Job Description
This position is responsible for leading and engaging in the design, testing, implementation, monitoring and debugging of critical power system model changes to the Energy Management System (EMS) related to SCADA communications. The Engineer will develop a detailed and in-depth knowledge of the New England communication systems. What we offer you: - A stable, mission-driven workplace where your impact truly matters - A highly engaged work environment that values inclusion, collaboration, and employee safety and wellbeing - Competitive compensation with a base salary + performance bonus - Robust benefits package, including: - Enhanced 401(k) and financial planning support - Tuition reimbursement and professional development - Wellness programs, including an onsite gym - Flexible work hours - Employee Business Networks - Free coffee at our onsite café - Hybrid work environment (3 days/week onsite) - Distance-based relocation assistance available - Paid on-call rotation How you will make an impact: - Providing day-to-day technical support and leadership of the EMS communication system applications - Support and implement new RTU and PMU installations/testing process for new assets and changes to existing assets - Support of Audio/Visual systems in the control room environment - Support in monitoring, tuning and supporting critical data communication systems, including ICCP, Communication Front End Systems, Remote Terminal Units, Phasor Data Concentrator systems - Develop and support custom applications used for automation, monitoring, and analyzing EMS data - Participate in team meetings to develop an understanding of the data communication group tasks - Jointly work with Satellite, SCADA and Interregional Control center personnel to direct and/or implement changes to the inter-ICCP and EIDSN communication databases. - 24x7 support of EMS communication applications on a rotating basis What you need to be successful in this role: - Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science - 1+ year(s) of networking experience - Experience with at least one of the following: Linux scripting, PERL, Java, Powershell, SQL - Ability to quickly respond to and resolve problems with all aspects of the communications computer systems, application software, user interface and data communications. - Excellent analytical skills - Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and presentation skills - Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities - Desired, but not required: - Experience with GE's eTerraPlatform EMS environment or similar product - SCADA, RTU, ICCP, synchrophasor Communications knowledge (DNP3,TASE.2,C37-118,MODBUS,TCPIP protocols) - Networking knowledge / experience - PMU device knowledge - BARCO CMS knowledge - Networking knowledge and experience This employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position (ex: H-1B, F-1/CPT/OPT, O-1, E-3, TN, J, etc.). The expected salary range for Communications Engineer is $100,000 - $135,000 per year. We will also consider a Senior Communications Engineer. The pay range for the Senior level is $130,000 - $146,000 annually. ISO New England Inc. is an independent, non-profit Regional Transmission Organization, headquartered in Holyoke, Massachusetts, serving Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The ISO-NE grid does not extend to remote parts of eastern and northern Maine in Washington and Aroostook Counties. In these areas, residents receive their electricity from Canadian providers such as NB Power and Hydro-Québec.
