Position Overview

Novelis - Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced EMRA Leader for the Guthrie Recycle Center. The Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, and Automation (EMRA) Leader is responsible for providing the mechanical, electrical, reliability engineering, maintenance, automation, instrumentation, and technical systems support required by the Recycle Center. This role leads efforts to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability and operating efficiency, manage costs and capital investment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering, maintenance, reliability, and technical teams in planning, scheduling, and maintaining installed and new assets.
  • Ensure maintenance and engineering work is properly scoped, planned, and scheduled to minimize equipment and process downtime.
  • Ensure engineering and maintenance issues affecting employee safety, process safety, and environmental performance are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Provide and maintain equipment that can be operated and serviced safely and ergonomically.
  • Lead projects to install, upgrade, or modify Recycle Center assets, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Partner with local maintenance teams and corporate reliability resources to develop maintenance strategies that improve asset availability and support elite performance.
  • Define, document, and maintain equipment reliability requirements, criticality rankings, and asset strategies.
  • Lead the Recycle Center in automation, controls, instrumentation, and industrial technical systems.
  • Improve the efficiency, reliability, cybersecurity, and maintainability of automation and control systems.
  • Provide leadership in assessing, analyzing, monitoring, and improving recovery, throughput, quality, and equipment performance.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for capital investment, reliability improvement, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope, and within approved cost parameters.
  • Develop and handle the repair and maintenance budget.
  • Lead the capital project process and maintain a five-year capital expenditure plan.
  • Develop engineering, maintenance, reliability, and automation talent through coaching, succession planning, training, and performance management.
  • Lead the development and execution of predictive and preventive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Lead outage planning and execution activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective completion of maintenance and capital work.
  • Lead contractors and service providers to ensure safe work practices, quality execution, and compliance with Novelis standards.
  • Ensure effective utilization of maintenance management systems, asset records, maintenance planning processes, and reliability reporting tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field
  • Master's degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field and/or P.E. certification preferred
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience, including management or leadership responsibility
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and other relevant engineering and maintenance systems
  • Ability to develop technical specifications and facilitate bids from contractors and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of recycling, remelt, material recovery, and associated process fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, with the ability to review and make minor changes to drawings
  • Ability to fix and perform root cause analysis on equipment, automation, and process issues in an industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of reliability principles, including the development and optimization of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
  • Knowledge of engineering and diagnostic tools such as vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, thermography, motor circuit analysis, and other condition-monitoring technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and administer capital expenditure budgets
  • Fundamental understanding of financial analysis and business-case development for project justification
  • Experience leading engineering and maintenance teams in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, such as SAP PM or an equivalent system
  • Understanding of process safety management principles and risk-based maintenance strategies
  • Demonstrated experience applying lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or reliability-centered maintenance methodologies
  • Demonstrated understanding of combustion systems, melting, casting, material handling, environmental control equipment, and utility systems within a recycling or metals manufacturing environment

Location Profile

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts. The Guthrie team enjoys partnerships with Hopkinsville Community College Todd County High School Guthrie Fire Department and several local Rotary Clubs.
