Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Wrangell, Alaska.

This position is ideal for an RN with strong emergency nursing skills who is comfortable assessing, prioritizing, and treating patients with a wide range of urgent and potentially life-threatening medical conditions.

The ER RN will work closely with emergency physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, laboratory staff, imaging teams, and other healthcare professionals to provide rapid, safe, and effective patient care.

Candidates must hold an active, current, unrestricted Alaska RN license and should have recent Emergency Department experience.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Perform rapid and comprehensive patient assessments.
• Triage patients according to clinical urgency and acuity.
• Recognize signs of deterioration and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
• Monitor cardiac rhythm, vital signs, respiratory status, neurological status, and other clinical indicators.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and emergency treatments according to provider orders.
• Establish and maintain peripheral IV access.
• Assist physicians during emergency procedures.
• Provide care for patients experiencing trauma, cardiac events, respiratory emergencies, neurological emergencies, infections, and other acute conditions.
• Support resuscitation efforts during codes and other life-threatening emergencies.
• Prepare patients for transfer, admission, or discharge.
• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, follow-up, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinate care with inpatient units and outside facilities when patient transfer is required.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using Cerner.
• Follow emergency department safety, infection-control, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in clinical handoffs and interdisciplinary communication.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards at all times.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:
• Active, current, full, and unrestricted Alaska Registered Nurse license
• Strong Emergency Room / Emergency Department nursing skills
• Recent acute-care nursing experience
• Ability to rapidly assess and prioritize patients
• Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced emergency environment
• Strong communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills

Experience
• At least 1 year of clinical RN experience is preferred
• Previous Emergency Department experience is strongly preferred
• Candidates must demonstrate strong ER nursing competencies
