The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.
Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Developer to join our Avionics Design team within the Core Systems and Components group. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing embedded software solutions for our Avionics and Electric Propulsion hardware. You will work in close collaboration with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to deliver robust, high-performance software for cutting-edge aerospace applications.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software in C/C++ for high voltage power systems
- Collaborate closely with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration
- Drive work across all phases of the software development lifecycle - from requirements and architecture through implementation, code review, verification, and deployment
- Develop low-level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms
- Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification activities
- Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and documentation
- Develop and execute software verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression tests
- Ensure software development adheres to applicable standards
QualificationsRequired:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in embedded software development
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and similar protocols
- Experience working with FPGA interfaces and register-level hardware integration
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency required
Additional Preferred Qualifications:- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Aerospace or safety-critical system development experience.
- Experience with communications protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
- Firmware development for custom hardware platforms.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation.
- Familiarity with Agile, DevOps and continuous integration practices.

Base Pay Range for:
CO applicants is $150,931.00 - $211,303.05WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80
