Job Description:

As the Test Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for the supervision of a highly skilled engineering team in the Test Engineering organization within the Engineering Operations department.  You will lead a multitude of product development initiatives, from a test perspective, across multiple propulsion system product lines.  As a leader in this team, you will ensure your team's development of reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timing.  A person in this position will work closely on a daily basis with internal/external business partners and support personnel.


In this role, you will be a valuable part of the team by:


  • Responsible for the day-to-day direct supervision of a team of direct engineering reports
  • Provide decision-making and a high level of independent judgment based on experience and skill
  • Meets Quality Requirements as it pertains to IATF 16949 and serve as the subject matter expert during audits
  • Assists with the planning of test engineer and test cell utilization
  • Conducts performance reviews and assists in the development of test engineers
  • Interfaces and collaborates with Allison Transmission internal resources and business partners
  • Work closely with Product Engineers to make sure test deliverables (information) are completed on-time, to keep them informed of current test status, and resolve priority issues within/across the various product groups
  • Assists test engineers in utilizing a systems engineering approach to design, develop, implement, and execute reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timing
  • Contribute to department continuous improvement activities to increase testing efficiency, reduce cost, and drive high levels of quality
  • Assumes appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development team
    • Participates in planning and/or status meetings
    • Promotes teamwork on all work related assignments
    • Maintains willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammates
  • Manages and oversees the execution of product tests
    • Creating, managing, and delivering multiple projects on-time and to budget
    • Assures facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needs
  • Assists with the documentation of test events/results through proofreading and authorizing Test Reports
  • Prepares, or assists in preparation of program bids or requests for cost estimates
  • Observes applicable procedures and practices as delineated in Test Operations Manual, PE Procedures, and Standard Procedures
  • Adheres to and strives to improve the engineering development process
  • Establishes and updates best practices and standardized testing procedures
  • Expense, travel, PO, and RFQ approval for direct reports
  • Other duties as assigned

To be successful in this role you will need the following:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree or equivalent experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Minimum of 5 years of Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering experience
  • Ability to lead multiple projects at a time
  • Proficient in oral and written business communication
  • Targets and achieves results, sets meaningful goals, prioritizes tasks, provides leadership/motivation
  • High level of technology experience with industrial controls, data acquisition equipment and systems, and heavy duty test equipment or equivalent experience with industrial systems
  • High level of analytical ability
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables
  • Demonstrated technical ability
  • Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Previous direct report supervision experience
  • Experience in laboratory test environment
  • Basic understanding of transmission and powertrain systems
  • Basic knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears, electric machines, and hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not required
  • Troubleshooting experience in electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferred
  • Statistical training highly desired
