POSITION SUMMARY:

Join a high-impact engineering organization developing next-generation power conversion and plasma power products that enable advanced semiconductor manufacturing. We are seeking a visionary and results-oriented Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, firmware, and advanced technology engineers through the full product development lifecycle, from concept and architecture through launch and sustaining.

This role combines strong people leadership with systems-level technical expertise, requiring an individual who can drive innovation, execute complex development programs, and build high-performing teams. You will play a key role in shaping product strategy, guiding technology development, engaging directly with customers, and delivering world-class solutions in a fast-paced global technology environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Lead the development of new platform architectures, product enhancements, and rapid prototyping initiatives.
  • Provide systems-level leadership for power conversion, RF/plasma-generation, and semiconductor equipment power technologies.
  • Translate customer and market requirements into clear system, subsystem, and component-level requirements.
  • Guide architecture development, design reviews, technology selection, and technical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with advanced technology teams to evaluate technology readiness and transition innovations into product development.
  • Mentor engineers through coaching, technical reviews, and structured professional development.

People Leadership
  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Establish clear priorities, goals, and performance expectations aligned with business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Promote Agile development practices and effective risk-based prioritization.

Program Execution
  • Lead development programs through all phases of the Product Development Process (PDP).
  • Drive execution against technical, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and program risks.
  • Ensure creation and maintenance of project plans, design documentation, and engineering deliverables.
  • Monitor and report program status, milestones, and commitments to leadership.

Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a trusted technical leader for key customers and strategic partners.
  • Align customer requirements, integration activities, and issue-resolution efforts with internal development teams.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Program Management, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, NPI, Finance, and Safety organizations to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization to drive alignment, decision-making, and execution.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Location: On-site position based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
  • Environment: Combination of office, engineering laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders across technical and business functions.
  • Proven success leading engineering teams and cross-functional development programs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership skills.

Technical
  • Extensive experience developing complex electronic products, preferably in power electronics, plasma systems, semiconductor equipment, motor drives, or electrification applications.
  • Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to balance technical depth and strategic business objectives.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching products from concept through commercialization.


EXPERIENCE:

Required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electronics product development.
  • Experience leading engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and problem solving methods using tools including oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters (DMMs), metrology equipment, logic analyzers and related equipment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and product lifecycle processes, including:
    • Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
    • Production transfers
    • Six Sigma methodologies
    • Gauge R&R
    • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

Preferred
  • Strong background in power electronics, including switch-mode power supply (SMPS) design, high-power RF systems, electrification and motor drives, or plasma-generation technologies.
  • Experience with circuit analysis, simulation, prototyping, validation, and system integration.
  • Embedded developer leadership experience, including C++ and FPGA oriented responsibilities supporting complex control architectures and product feature sets
  • Working knowledge of industry compliance and regulatory standards, including UL, CSA, SEMI, IEC, ANSI, & IPC
  • Experience leading global engineering teams and customer-facing technical engagements.


EDUCATION:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • PMP, Agile, Scrum, or equivalent project management certification.


COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $135,000 to $185,000 per year.
