Job Details

Reporting to the divisional Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Manager plans, directs, and supervises all administrative, technical, and fiscal aspects of the department, including personnel management and the development of laboratory testing to ensure accuracy and reliability of the laboratory function and results. The Manager is responsible for staff development and performance management, budgeting, adherence to metrics and outcomes, supply chain, and revenue cycle. The manager also plans and directs activities to ensure a high standard of care and implementation of sound policies and procedures, including training, budget administration, and employee relations.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

  • Leads Supervisors, Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians to maintain a high- functioning, highly efficient department, including the development and maintenance of appropriate clinical competency.

  • Responsible for performance management for supervisory, technical, and support staff, including annual performance appraisals, hiring and terminations, and disciplinary actions.

  • Ensures department operational efficiencies through appropriate staffing and fiscal accountability.

  • Establishes criteria and templates for acceptable analytical performance, including validity of specimens, testing, QA/QC, and results reporting. Has sign-off responsibility on these activities (in addition to supervisor).

  • Develops laboratory guidelines and procedure manuals to ensure effective instrument and equipment use and testing quality control. Ensures standard operational procedures are correct and up-to-date.

  • Prepares budget in consultation with director to allocate expenses, control costs, and maintain operations at a level consistent with budgetary guidelines.

  • Plans and manages all lab activities in alignment with the department and hospital goals.

  • Performs other duties related to laboratory services as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college/university or equivalent experience. Master’s Degree in related field.

Experience: 7 years in Medical Technology, with at least 1-3 years of supervisory and/or lead experience. Intermediate computer level.

Licenses and Certifications: CP-BC - Clinical Pathologist-Board Certified - American Board of Pathology preferred.
