Summary/Objective

Job Description

About the Role

Assist the Facility Manager in planning work, scheduling and directing other team electricians and contractors performing work at Symphony Hall. Perform Master Electrician level work in the maintenance, modification, overhaul, installation, service, repair of all types of electrical systems and general labor for Symphony Hall facilities, production and ancillary BSO properties. May be requested to work within or out of their specific trade designation in the overall maintenance and operation of the BSO.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, and co-ordinate electrical work under the direction of the Facility Manager.

  • Direct other team electricians and contractors performing electrical work in the facility.

  • Responsible for safety compliance with all electrical and related life safety systems (Emergency lighting, generators, elevators, fire alarm).

  • Coordinates testing with HVAC technician for fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

  • Perform maintenance on electrical systems (high voltage, low voltage, lighting, interlock, and control wiring systems).

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical lighting systems and equipment noted above.  Overhaul equipment when appropriate including assembly and re-assembly of equipment, rebuilding, replacing major components, etc.

  • Provide initial review of building or system problems and suggest call to outside maintenance service providers for specialized needs for maintenance of service. Lead and assist outside contractors in performing work if applicable, research and recommend new equipment and procedures.

  • Other general duties as assigned to the House Crew e.g. event logistics and rooms set-ups, receiving dock activities, office moves, security, emergency first responder, special cleaning and assisting other trades within the Crew. Provide labor for outside building services including snow and ice control and removal, and general exterior building maintenance.

  • Assist or perform decoration services including holiday decorations or flag/banner installation in or outside of building. Requirements will include mandatory overtime and working a flexible schedule with multiple time periods.

  • Coordinates event, performance, and Tel/Data electrical and communication needs and installations with Event Services, Concert Operations, and IT.

  • Assure facility code and inspection compliance for electrical disciplines are current.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Special Conditions:

Strenuous physical activity is required – must be able to access all areas of the facility including climbing ladders and scaffolding, crawl spaces and entering of confined spaces, roofs and attics.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.  Exterior work will require working in all weather conditions; snow removal and ice treatment. Work environment involves exposure to materials, tools and situations that require following important safety precautions including the use of personal protective equipment. Must be available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week to respond to facility emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED with 5-7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Massachusetts: Journeyman’s Electrician License (minimum) Master Electrician’s License (preferred)

  • Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate work.

  • Ability to understand integrated complexities of building electrical systems.

  • Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment.

  • Ability to install and maintain motors, lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, and transformers.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions and modifications on secondary circuits.

  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools applicable to trade

  • Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.

  • Knowledge and experience with working on older wiring systems 

  • Language Skills: English

Pay Range: $38 - $45 per hour
