This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for ahighly experienced Electrical Protection Engineer for our Orlando, FL office, with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location within Florida (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located). Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Southeast, Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team.Be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

The successful applicant will be responsible for completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships. Completion of these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles as well as leadership competence in working with clients and mentoring and supervising team members assigned to projects.

Your Impact
  • Perform professional electrical engineering work in system protection projects and electrical studies for utility and industrial/commercial clients.
    • Systems to be analyzed will include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems.
  • Define protective relaying protection criteria as a basis for developing protective relay settings to meet industry and client requirements.
  • Develop protective relay settings to protect substation, transmission, distribution, and generator apparatus, including buses, breakers, transmission lines, feeders, motors, generators, transformers, capacitor banks, and reactors.
  • Generate overhead transmission line and underground models to calculate electrical parameters for power system analysis.
  • Perform power system modeling, short circuit, and symmetrical component analysis.
  • Document protective element coordination with time-current, time-distance, and mho plots.
  • Describe protection schemes to be used for operational guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Develop protective relay logic to meet application requirements for protection, control, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and analysis on compliance with NERC requirements.
  • Analyze arc flash for low, medium, and high voltage applications.
  • Collaborate with SCADA team members to integrate protection with SCADA systems.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET).
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience working with Operations and project controls for purposes of reporting and proposal development.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), GE Enervista, ASPEN Oneliner, Gridscale X Advanced Protection Assessment, SKM-PTW, ETAP), AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and statistical analysis arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering (power system focus).
  • Registered professional engineer (P.E.) or equivalent.
  • RSCAD/RTDS experience.
  • Active involvement in industry organizations such as IEEE, Cigre, or IEC.
  • Experience in mentoring others and in providing technical and commercial leadership in customer focused engineering projects.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
