Full Job Description
EPI Power is hiring an Estimating Director to join our growing team. This role provides leadership and direction to the entire Estimating department by providing oversight on preconstruction efforts on all projects and strategic direction for the future. The position is charged with making assignments and developing staff to meet the needs of the business.

What You'll Do:
  • Monitor design documents for compliance with scope and value analysis incorporation.
  • Analyze, assist, and provide suggestions for appropriate contract language that protects the company.
  • Exhibit a professional understanding of cost, market impacts, governing authority, constructability, scheduling, design, and value.
  • Take the lead role in preconstruction team meetings when appropriate and demonstrate the value of incorporated communications and information sharing throughout the process.
  • Perform conceptual estimates and actively participate in the development and evaluation of owners' feasibility studies as requested or required.
  • Provide the most professional and appropriate estimating and documentation techniques relative to the owner's needs, team's expectations, acceptable risk, and time constraints throughout the preconstruction period.
  • Review all estimates for accuracy, appropriate level of detail, and high standard of expectations.
  • Prepare a detailed schedule identifying the preconstruction tasks and activities.
  • Prepare the initial project construction schedule (Preconstruction Project Schedule) with or without assistance from the assigned operations staff. Understand this schedule and provide information to the owner, designer, or project team of impacts based on decisions made during preconstruction.
  • Assist the construction team in developing an adequate project plan inclusive of the information and expertise gathered during the design period.
  • Ensures preconstruction managers transfer relationships and information effectively to operations.
  • Obtain quotations from other departments for specialty items such as payroll taxes, city tax, liability insurance, builders risk, permits, and performance bond premiums.
  • Ensures prequalification process of subcontractors and vendors is utilized for all projects.


What We're Looking For:
  • Experience:
    • Ten years of extensive estimating and/or project management construction experience is required
    • Electrical contracting experience with a focus on hyperscale/data centers
    • An industry related bachelor's degree is strongly preferred
  • Skills:
    • Understanding of material escalation, procurement timing risks, and trade stacking/congestion impacts
    • Motivated to provide high-quality, accurate work
    • Strong grasp of labor productivity modeling
    • Ability to learn new applications quickly as the industry grows and changes
    • Skilled with prioritization and multi-tasking
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Analytical with the ability to be proactive and solve problems
  • Technology:
    • Proficient with Accubid, Excel, and cost benchmarking systems
    • Deep knowledge of electrical distribution systems (MV/LV, busway, generators, UPS, switchgear)
    • Comfortable working with computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Currently located in the Des Moines, IA area or willing to relocate permanently
