Full Job Description
Lead the team responsible for the electrical innovation behind industry-leading hearing technology while shaping the future of Starkey's Research & Development organization. As the leader of Electrical Design Analysis, you'll drive technical excellence in electrical engineering, mentor and develop top engineering talent, and influence the strategy, processes, and technologies that power next-generation products from concept through commercialization.

JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

This position is responsible for the leadership and development of Starkey's Electrical Design Analysis (EDA) function and serves as an active leader within Hardware Engineering. The primary responsibility is to provide clear communication, technical drive, and team leadership to maintain and mature engineering excellence within the group and be accountable for ensuring employee competence and engagement. This position is responsible for driving technical leadership in the development of EDA processes and methods; has the ability and passion for continuous technology and process improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

  • Ambassador for EDA Engineering, considerations, trade-offs, and expectations, working with the entire new product development community
    • Provides program planning support with resource management estimates, development model recommendations (internally developed, make vs. buy, ODM partner joint development), technology maturity and platform assessments, duration, and cost estimates.
    • Accountable for electrical development, quality-of-service, performance, and electrical hardware design functions through all Starkey new product development execution and sustaining.
  • Manage EDA staff
    • Establish and continuously improve organizational strategy for EDA, promoting effective execution, innovation, and succession planning
    • Create and maintain appropriate job descriptions for all staff.
    • Plan and manage staff resource allocations, utilizations, and prioritizations with PWA, MS Project, and PMOs.
    • Manage staff PTO requests and perform their performance and salary reviews on time.
    • Maintain a positive attitude and keep staff morale, teamwork, and motivation high.
    • Resolve any staff conflicts promptly and diplomatically.
    • Manage staff with a professional and tactful demeanor.
    • Ensure all staff are aware of and abide by all corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Communicate department and corporate policies, objectives, or announcements in a clear and timely manner.
    • Provide technical leadership and direction on all product development activities.
  • Staff and develop the EDA team members and continuously improve them
    • Develop and manage electrical hardware design of hearing aids and associated accessories with excellence within the department.
    • Keep teams abreast of new product requirements and standards. Support interpreting and testing to requirements for compliance.
    • Keep staff abreast of relevant patent activity and foster a culture of creative design and innovation in the department.
    • Lead training and implementation of product development processes (i.e., SIPOC flowcharts, Design Review, DFMEA...)
    • Create and track continuing education and/or training goals for all staff.
    • Support creating and executing strategic department training and development plans (i.e., Job Skills and/or Tools).
    • Manage personnel decisions and work with HR to maintain a high-performance staff.
    • Discuss and establish a career track with each employee and actively monitor and support their progress.
    • Identify and mentor individuals to succeed in supervisor and manager positions within the department.
  • Develop EDA processes and continuously improve them
    • Develop and document intra-department processes.
    • Collaborate with Project Management Office (PMO) and other functional groups within R&D to drive product development process improvements.
    • Facilitate and drive internal and interdepartmental process improvements through Kaizen or similar activities.
  • Measure, track, and continuously improve EDA team performance.
    • Create, track, and maintain relevant department performance scorecard items.
    • Escalate any personnel, project, and/or performance issue up the chain of command in a timely manner.
    • Create and execute annual department objectives to drive strategic improvements for the department.
  • Represent EDA Engineering to Other Development Teams within R&D.
    • Develop and lead effective cross-functional execution and collaboration across R&D and Operations
    • Guide competitive analysis concerning electrical design and performance.
  • Create and manage the annual budget for EDA Engineering headcount and spending per according to revenue.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field


Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience in a product development environment required
  • Minimum 1 year of management or supervisory experience required
  • Hearing industry or medical device industry experience preferred


Knowledge / Technical Requirements

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in electrical design (e.g. electronic components, mixed signal design, SiPi, PCB layout)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of schematic and layout CAD packages (e.g. Siemens Xpedition, Alitum, Cadence Allegro)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of circuit simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, Q3D, HFSS, SIWave, Maxwell)
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of DSP, SoC, and PMIC technologies
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog circuits
  • General to intermediate knowledge of acoustics, hearing aid design, hearing aid systems
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of product development best practices (e.g. DFM, DOE, DRM, DFMEA, gNPI)
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office
  • General to intermediate knowledge of project management best practices
  • General to intermediate proficiency in MS Project

Salary and Other Compensation:

The target pay rate for this position is between $125,280 - $172,200 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
