Full Job Description
Lumentum is seeking a talented and motivated Electrical Engineer/FPGA Designer to join our cutting-edge development team in Ottawa. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing FPGA-based systems and electrical circuits for our advanced optical metrology sensor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • FPGA Design: Design and implement FPGAs using VHDL/Verilog for high-speed data processing, control, and communication applications.
  • FPGA Verification: Verify FPGAs using SystemVerilog and the latest object oriented methodologies to create a flexible environment to achieve high test coverage metrics.
  • Circuit Design: Develop and optimize electrical circuits for photonics systems, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal designs.
  • System Integration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (optical, software, and hardware engineers) to integrate FPGA designs with broader optical systems.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct comprehensive testing and verification of FPGA designs and electrical circuits to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Documentation: Create detailed design documentation, test plans, and reports to support design, testing, and product lifecycle management.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, test and firmware engineers to define system requirements and collaborate on end-to-end system architecture and implementation.
  • Troubleshooting & Debugging: Analyze and debug electrical and FPGA-related issues in both simulation and real-world environments, ensuring optimized performance and quality.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in FPGA design and verification using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog.
    • Proven experience with high-speed digital design, signal integrity, and hardware debugging.
    • Experience with tools such as Xcelium, Xilinx Vivado, or Altera Quartus.
    • Experience with PCB design, layout, and circuit simulation tools.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in FPGA architecture, implementation, and verification techniques.
    • Strong knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, including signal processing, power management, and high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet).
    • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or TCL for automation and testing purposes.
    • Knowledge of industry standards and protocols (e.g., Ethernet, SPI, I2C).
    • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with real-time system, optical sensors, LiDAR.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems design.
  • Experience with high-speed serial interfaces, ADC, DAC, etc.
