Full Job Description
Position Title: MEMS Test and Verification Engineer

Employment Type: Full-time, Existing vacancy

Location: Ottawa ON, Onsite

Why You'll Love This Role

Lumentum's Switching BU has an opening for a MEMS Test and Verification Engineer to develop, execute, and sustain test and verification solutions for MEMS wafer-level and device-level platforms. MEMS technology has been at the core of Lumentum's WSS products for over 20 years, and this role will support both existing products and emerging market opportunities.

This position combines hands-on MEMS testing, test automation, software development, data analysis, failure analysis, and product verification. The engineer will work closely with design, process, manufacturing, product engineering, and automation teams to verify device performance, investigate failures, validate new hardware and software deployments, improve test coverage, and support manufacturing readiness.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop, maintain, and improve MEMS wafer-level and device-level test and verification methods, including defining verification plans, test procedures, process flows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and sustain automation software for MEMS wafer test stations and related test platforms, including instrument drivers for SMUs, LCR meters, interferometers, cameras, motion stages, and other test equipment.
  • Perform electrical, optical, mechanical, environmental, and functional testing of MEMS devices.
  • Identify, document, and investigate device, process, test, hardware, software, and automation-related failures, and analyze test/failure data to determine trends, failure modes, root causes, and yield limiters.
  • Collaborate with design, process, product, manufacturing, quality, and reliability teams to drive corrective actions, verify fixes, and improve test methods, verification coverage, failure detection, and diagnostic capability.
  • Create wafer map visualizations, yield tracking dashboards, and data analysis tools to monitor performance, test coverage, failure Pareto trends, and manufacturing health.
  • Validate new hardware and software deployments at manufacturing sites.
  • Apply software development best practices, including design documentation, API documentation, unit testing, version control, and continuous integration.
  • Prepare technical documentation, failure analysis summaries, verification reports, test summaries, and recommendations.

What We're Looking For

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related technical discipline.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with electrical probing, semiconductor testing, wafer-level testing, MEMS device characterization, or failure analysis, including developing or supporting automated test systems for these or related optical/precision electromechanical devices.
  • Strong object-oriented software development skills using C#, Python, or an equivalent language.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: VB.NET, XML, MES, SVN, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Visual Studio, MS Build, .NET Framework, or multi-threaded applications.
  • Knowledge of databases, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools such as SQL, Python/Pandas, JMP, Minitab, or equivalent.
  • Ability to analyze test data, summarize failure modes, and support root-cause investigations.
  • Hands-on experience with optical and electrical test and measurement equipment.
  • Strong communication, documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks in an engineering and manufacturing environment.

Skills:
  • Experience with optical MEMS, WSS products, wafer sort, or production test environments.
  • Experience with instrument automation using GPIB, VISA, SCPI, or similar protocols.
  • Experience with motion control systems or precision alignment platforms.
  • Familiarity with corrective action processes, test repeatability, gauge R&R, SPC, yield analysis, and design-of-experiments (DOE) methods.
  • Experience with interferometry, microscopy, profilometry, SEM, FIB, X-ray, or other advanced semiconductor/MEMS failure analysis techniques.
  • Experience supporting transfer of test methods from engineering development into manufacturing.

Perks You'll Love
  • Flexible time off
  • Health and wellness benefits (physical and mental)
  • Tuition reimbursement and career growth support
  • A workplace built for you: free gym, games room, prayer room
  • Subsidized meals, free coffee/tea
  • Employee stock options and incentive plans
  • A collaborative, innovative, and inclusive culture

Salary Range: $110,625 - $149,675 CAD (flexible).
