About the roleWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Power Engineer to support the design, analysis, and implementation of complex electrical systems for advanced nuclear projects. The ideal candidate is technically proficient and detail-oriented, with experience in medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, power system modeling, instrumentation and controls, and the integration of these systems into multidisciplinary environments.
What you'll do- Lead the design, analysis, and specification of electrical power systems, including MV/LV distribution, grounding, lightning protection, and backup power infrastructure.
- Perform power system studies, including arc flash, fault current, coordination, and harmonic analysis, using tools such as SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
- Develop and coordinate multidisciplinary design packages, including drawings, procurement specifications, and technical reports, from conceptual design through construction.
- Serve as Design Agent or Engineer of Record, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, and DOE/NRC requirements.
- Coordinate with I&C team members to proactively communicate power system impacts on control system design and operation.
- Provide construction support, including field troubleshooting, commissioning, and resolution of engineering and design issues.
Responsibilities:- Collect and interpret system and performance requirements and verify how requirements are satisfied by the design
- Develop verification and validation strategies for reactor reactivity control systems
- Design and build custom mechanical test rigs, fixtures, and infrastructure for system verification
- Execute mechanical and environmental testing, including vibration and seismic-style testing for dry systems
- Develop test procedures, acceptance criteria, and validation methodologies aligned with engineering and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with analysis engineers to correlate test data with analytical predictions and system models
- Perform hands-on fabrication, assembly, modification, and troubleshooting of test hardware Instrument systems and collect high-quality test data
- Diagnose failures and support rapid iteration with design and manufacturing teams
- Write detailed test reports documenting procedures, results, findings, and recommendations
- Support system integration, commissioning, and verification activities
- Travel occasionally to test facilities or deployment sites
Basic Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in electrical engineering, controls engineering or related field.
- Experience designing, developing and integrating control and automation systems with and without human input.
- Experience in sensor selection for control systems and redundancy requirements.
- Experience working with PLCs and various control systems.
- Experience working with motor controls and VFDs.
- Strong and high proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving of various electrical and control systems.
- Preferred but not required: PE license in the state of Texas or Idaho
