Full Job Description
Electrical Automation Engineer Electrical Automation Engineer Waterville, Nova Scotia Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., which operates three tire manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia, is seeking an Automation Engineer to join its team in Waterville, Nova Scotia. The Electrical Automation Engineer will support the manufacturing process and equipment by designing, specifying, purchasing and constructing electrical automation systems and components. This position will include aspects of project management, technical specification, design, analysis, installation management, equipment start-up and manufacturing. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing the automation portion of projects to enable the plant to meet its market, productivity, and quality goals. They will assist management with pre-studies of deployment and development projects related to electrical automation. They will also complete design studies and follow procurement and fabrication of equipment and lead the installation, commissioning and start-up of the equipment in an industrial plant environment. Job responsibilities include: • providing detailed electrical design and automation programming for assigned projects and plant technical assistance; • providing estimates and technical schedules for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement or upgrade; • providing backup support and training to plant maintenance teams on newly implemented automation systems; • collaborating with internal company support groups to accomplish objectives, and provide contract engineering management and direction when needed; and, • participating in assigned major capital projects and/or modifications from start to finish, including equipment reception, commissioning, and acceptance. Requirements for this position include: • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, or related field; and, • minimum of 1-2 years of proven experience in electrical automation design. The following assets are preferred, but not required: • experience with electrical design standards and the ability to complete controls systems designs using standard CAD design tools; • experience in Project Team Leadership or Project Management; • experience with PLC programming standards and programming software, including GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text (Rockwell and Siemens); • experience with Variable Frequency drives and Motion Control technologies (Rockwell, Siemens and Control Techniques); • experience with HMI configuration, programming and communication (Rockwell); • experience with control systems network interfaces and various protocols for communications between devices including computer system databases; • vision system configuration and interface for width measurement applications and defect detection applications (specific experience with Cognex, Keyence, Adept, Bytewise, Gocator is an asset); and, • robotic experience, configuration or knowledge (Fanuc, ABB). Competencies: • solid written and verbal communication skills; • well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; • ability to set and achieve goals with minimum supervision; • demonstrated solid teamwork, interpersonal, leadership and planning skills; and, • ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in dealings with outside contractors and equipment suppliers.
