Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the site's EHS management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) to ensure regulatory compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage environmental programs, permits, compliance reporting, and monitoring activities related to EPCRA, air emissions, hazardous waste, wastewater, and stormwater.
  • Monitor, track, and analyze EHS performance data, prepare reports, and support site sustainability and improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct EHS inspections and audits, monitor regulatory changes, and help ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable requirements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs and communications to promote employee awareness, engagement, and a positive safety culture.
  • Support health and safety programs, including chemical safety, hazard communication, and other regulatory initiatives.
  • Lead or support emergency preparedness and response activities, including planning, drills, and incident reporting.

Full Job Description
Hexcel is seeking an EHS Engineer to support the environmental, health, and safety program at our Amesbury, MA facility. This role focuses on maintaining compliance with state and federal environmental requirements, including site permits, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, and corporate sustainability initiatives, while partnering with operations to prevent compliance issues and protect the facility and surrounding community. The EHS Engineer will play a key role in strengthening an already positive EHS culture and offers a strong opportunity to build skills and grow within the Environmental Health & Safety field. This position reports to the Site EHS Manager.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:
• Support and maintain the site's EHS management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) to ensure regulatory compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement.
• Manage environmental programs, permits, compliance reporting, and monitoring activities related to EPCRA, air emissions, hazardous waste, wastewater, and stormwater.
• Monitor, track, and analyze EHS performance data, prepare reports, and support site sustainability and improvement initiatives.
• Conduct EHS inspections and audits, monitor regulatory changes, and help ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable requirements.
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs and communications to promote employee awareness, engagement, and a positive safety culture.
• Support health and safety programs, including chemical safety, hazard communication, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, and other regulatory and risk-based initiatives.
• Review chemicals, equipment, and process changes to identify EHS risks, recommend appropriate controls, and participate in risk assessments, PHAs, and HAZOP reviews.
• Lead or support emergency preparedness and response activities, including planning, drills, training, incident reporting, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
• Review, investigate, and track incidents, corrective actions, and compliance issues; participate in significant incident investigations and drive sustainable corrective measures.
• Serve as an EHS resource for site personnel, leadership, and regulatory agencies, providing day-to-day support for environmental, health, and safety programs.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
• Minimum of 3 years of EHS or environmental compliance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs related to air emissions, hazardous waste, wastewater, and stormwater management.
• Experience supporting environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, and compliance activities, including RCRA LQG hazardous waste management and air permitting.
• Familiarity with sustainability initiatives, such as waste reduction, recycling, emissions reduction, and resource conservation programs.
• Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001) preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Professional certifications such as CHMM, ASP, CSP, CIH, QEP, or related credentials are preferred.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.

Complete salary range for this role: $76,550 - $130,000

This position is restricted to U.S. citizens due to U.S. federal government contracts that require the employment of only persons who are U.S. citizens.
