Position OverviewThe Novelis Global EDI Team is seeking an experienced EDI Architect to lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise B2B/EDI integration solutions. This role will be responsible for architecting scalable and secure data exchange solutions across trading partners using platforms such as OpenText (GXS), Seeburger BIS, and SAP (IDoc’s).
The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of technical expertise, integration architecture skills, and business acumen, with proven experience in complex EDI ecosystem transformations and modernization initiatives.
This role will align EDI solutions with business strategies and contribute to the growth of existing capabilities in the areas of business engagement, project methodology, and industry’s best practices. The Architect will liaise with the business, other technical resources, and third-party trading partners. On projects of all sizes, the analyst will coordinate the various resources, tasks and timing, and handle direct communication to internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
Architecture & Design
- Design and implement enterprise-level EDI/B2B integration architectures leveraging OpenText Trading Grid / GXS, Seeburger Business Integration Suite (BIS), and SAP (IDoc, ALE).
- Define integration patterns for real-time, batch, and event-driven data exchanges
- Build scalable frameworks for onboarding trading partners and message flows
EDI & Integration Development
- Oversee development and deployment of EDI transactions (X12, EDIFACT, XML)
- Ensure mapping, transformation, and validation standards across platforms
- Guide teams in building reusable integration components and accelerators
Integration
- Architect integration between EDI systems and ERP (SAP,Oracle)
- Manage IDoc processing, error handling, and monitoring
- Collaborate with functional teams for end-to-end process alignment
Platform Leadership
- Lead upgrades, implementations, and support of OpenText Trading Grid / Managed Services and Seeburger BIS components
- Evaluate and recommend improvements for performance, scalability, and cost optimization
Governance & Standards
- Define EDI standards, naming conventions, and message governance models
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT, AS2, SFTP, API integration)
- Drive secure communication protocols and data protection strategies
Stakeholder Management
- Lead onboarding, testing, and certification of trading partners
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and business stakeholders
- Act as SME for EDI strategy and roadmap discussions
Support & Optimization
- Provide L2/L3/L4 production support and incident resolution leadership
- Monitor transaction flows and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks
- Continuously improving system efficiency and reliability

Daily Responsibilities
- Works directly with customers, vendors, technical teams, and subject matter experts to identify, prioritize, align and develop EDI solutions to support business initiatives.
- Distinguishes between requests and underlying needs, identifies options and best practices which will satisfy the business requirements in consideration of both EDI and system functionality.
- Gathers and documents requirements, plans and coordinates deliverables with trading partners, developers, and business owners; performs analysis and design of the EDI solution and contributes to the technical design of the overall solution. Translates business requirements into functional specifications for EDI development including both scope of mapping/translator processes and ERP processes.
- Provides consultation on complex projects involving EDI integration inbound or outbound from Novelis systems and assumes primary responsibility for integration and EDI recommendations.
- Creates and delivers correspondence, presentations, and other materials for end user training and educates Novelis business representatives on EDI topics related to business initiatives.
- Support Novelis Global IT business engagement activities.
- Supports management in prioritizing the portfolio of business initiatives.
- Adheres to governance and protocol for IT engagements, prioritization of work, maintenance of portfolio and resource alignment.
- Adheres to established Project Management Methodology
- Participates in the Weekly Production Support Rotation
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in EDI/B2B integration
- 5+ years in an Architect or Lead role
- Strong experience with OpenText (Trading Grid, GXS,), Seeburger BIS platform, and SAP EDI integration (IDocs, ALE)
- Deep knowledge of EDI standards ANSI X12 (850, 810, 856, 997, etc.) and EDIFACT messages
- Experience with communication protocols AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTP/S, APIs.
- Minimum 7-10 years’ experience with EDI design, development, implementation and production support activities associated with common manufacturing customer and vendor transaction sets, e.g., 856/Advanced Ship Notice 863/Quality Certificate, 870/Mill Order Status.
- Proven record of accomplishment in a fast-paced environment, execution oriented with consistent and positive results.
- Strong team player with creative thinking for providing innovative solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Functional knowledge of sales and distribution requirements in ERP (orders, deliveries, shipments, scheduling agreements) is required. Knowledge of material, quality, and financial management is a plus.
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred, automotive experience is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud integration platforms (Azure Integration Services, AWS, SAP CPI)
- Knowledge of APIs and microservices integration
- Experience with EDI Managed Services environments (OpenText Trading Grid and Seeburger BIS platform)
- SAP S/4HANA integration experience
