What role you will play in our team

  • The Corporate Strategy Department (CS) is responsible for recommending to corporate management key bases and planning assumptions and assisting management in developing ExxonMobil business objectives and strategies.
  • The Economics and Energy Division is one of three divisions within CS; its principal role is to advise management on economic and market developments. The Division monitors and evaluates trends and issues in the supply and demand of energy and products, prepares periodic global outlooks, and provides recommendations for internal strategy and planning bases.
  • The Economist position assists the Chief Economist and Senior Economist in providing economic analysis and guidance to senior management, corporate departments and businesses, and to advance external thought leadership and advocacy.


What you will do

The primary responsibilities of this individual are to support the Senior and Chief Economists in economic forecasting and monitoring, corporate strategy, research studies for external advocacy and thought leadership, and providing economic analysis to corporate functional organizations. Specific duties include:
  • Leverage third-party forecasts and AI tools, provide economic inputs and analyses for the Global Outlook and Corporate Plan, covering both short- and long-term projections.
  • Provide research support for corporate strategy studies, business line strategy reviews, and strategic questions and market studies for the Global Outlook.
  • Curate existing economic monitoring tools, including economic signposts and corporate dashboards.
  • Work with the Senior and Chief Economist to produce research studies supporting external advocacy and thought leadership at the intersection of economics and energy.
  • Provide economic data and analysis to support corporate functional organizations, including Global Trading, Supply Chain, and Business Solutions.


About you

Experience and Job Skills:
  • 5+ years of economics experience across academia and government or business.
  • Track record of success in supporting economic research and analysis at a research university, ideally as a research assistant to a tenure-track or tenured professor at an academic institution.
  • Management of AI agents in a research setting.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interface directly with senior ExxonMobil Management and functional contacts.
  • Well-developed written and oral presentation skills.
  • At least a Master's degree in economics or similar discipline required. No particular field within economics is required but an interest in applied economics is preferred.

Control Sensitivities / Capabilities:
  • Familiar with basic Corporate control policies and methods.

Computer Systems:
  • Strong PC aptitude and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Advanced experience with Stata and use of AI agents. Proficiency with R or Python is a plus.
