What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Hazardous Material Packaging Specialist to ensure that our department's operations align with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Sandia National Laboratories requirements for hazardous materials management, shipping, storage, handling, and transportation. This role will be critical in maintaining compliance and ensuring the safe and efficient handling of hazardous materials, which is essential for the success of our projects and the mission.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:
  • Work with customers to establish shipping requirements and schedules.
  • Provide packing instructions to prepare hazardous materials for shipment, including marking, labelling, and container selection.
  • Oversee packaging activities to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Signs legal shipping documentation on behalf of Sandia National Laboratories.
  • Provides guidance and direction to internal customers for the safe and compliant shipment of items.
  • Ensures safe compliant shipping of radiological and explosive materials.
  • Ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

About Our Team

Department 4761 - Enabling Sandia's Mission by providing technical review and packaging design of classified/unclassified hazardous material moves, e.g., radioactive, explosive, nuclear. The department and associated programs facilitate hazardous material transport made via commercial transportation operations including specialty shipments involving the Office of Secure Transportation (OST) while adhering to DOE, DOT, and OST requirements. Provides specialized packaging and labeling of hazardous materials to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient packaging, handling, and transportation of hazardous materials. Meet all shipping regulations that apply to air, ground, vessel and military transport.

About Sandia National Laboratories

The Sandia National Laboratories is one of three National Nuclear Security Administration research and development laboratories in the United States, managed and operated privately by the National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia.
