What is the opportunity?

The Director, Trading & Execution Services Tech - Head of Architecture & DevOps will lead the development and implementation of strategic application architecture across Trading and Execution Services (TES) Technology. Ensures technology plans are aligned with organizational goals, driving innovation to address complex technical and business challenges. Directs the management of multiple teams in application architecture, focusing on strategy implementation. Promotes the adoption of AI and DevOps tooling to drive technology delivery and helps teams navigate Cybersecurity challenges.

What will you do?
  • Represents Trading and Execution Services (TES) in QTS Architectural forums and contributes to the architectural strategy of QTS and RBC overall
  • Ensures applications are fit for purpose in the competitive landscape of Electronic Trading within Capital Markets. Navigates considerations such as latency, throughput and resiliency
  • Develops and executes application architecture strategies aligned with QTS and RBC objectives, integrating emerging technologies and adhering to enterprise standards.
  • Leads and oversees multiple teams on complex projects, fostering collaboration across departments to deliver high quality solutions.
  • Drives the adoption of devops and AI tooling across TES to drive expeditious technology delivery
  • Oversees our Cybersecurity posture across TES and tracks progress against internal targets
  • Creates and maintains common technology frameworks and platforms for adoption across TES and QTS
  • Proactively educates staff within TES on architectural, and development operations standards and practices
  • Establishes policies, processes, and standards to optimize application architecture for scalability, efficiency, and alignment with business needs.
  • Champions AI adoption through hands-on enablement, delivering training sessions, pairing with developers, and building internal education programs that raise the organization's capability with AI-assisted development
  • Provides expert guidance on architectural designs and solutions, addressing highly complex challenges and shaping strategies to achieve impactful outcomes.
  • Manages application architecture initiatives of significant complexity, applying advanced technical expertise to solve abstract problems, and making independent decisions across business units.
  • Makes independent decisions on program, technical or operational strategy for the department, providing leadership, coaching and mentorship through senior managers and managers. Sets strategic direction for the department or area receiving high level direction from senior leaders.
  • Drives innovation across areas of responsibility identifying opportunities for making operational changes and practices, solving highly complex problems broadly related to application architecture.
  • Leads cross functional collaboration efforts, fostering strong internal relationships across the organization and external relationships to drive business outcomes.


What do you need to succeed?
  • Degree in related discipline; strong technical background along with a deep understanding of Capital Markets products and Electronic Trading practice
  • Highly familiar with Electronic Trading practices and workflows
  • Strong leadership skills: engage teams, allocate leadership and work effectively, remove obstacles, and secure timely outcomes aligned to RBC's business strategy and technology architecture
  • Strong presentation and negotiating skills
