General Summary

Leads the organization's technical accounting function and ensures compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and healthcare industry-specific accounting standards. Provides strategic oversight of complex accounting matters, including accounting for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, revenue recognition, leases, debt, investments, and other non-routine transactions. Serves as the organization's primary subject matter expert on technical accounting and financial reporting matters and partners closely with senior finance leadership, treasury, legal, strategy, revenue cycle, and external auditors. Oversees the preparation of technical accounting memoranda, development of accounting policies, and implementation of new accounting standards. Leads technical accounting analysis and supports the integrity and transparency of the organization's financial reporting.

  • Leads the organization's technical accounting function and serves as the primary expert on complex GAAP matters.
  • Oversees research, interpretation, and implementation of new and existing accounting standards issued by FASB and other regulatory bodies.
  • Directs the preparation and review of technical accounting memoranda for complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Provides authoritative guidance to finance leadership on accounting treatment for significant business transactions and advises executive leadership on the financial reporting implications of major initiatives.
  • Supports due diligence and integration efforts related to strategic transactions.
  • Oversees the preparation and review of accounting disclosures in audited financial statements.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, healthcare industry accounting practices, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Leads implementation of new accounting standards and ensure proper adoption across the organization.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates accounting policies and technical guidance for the organization.
  • Ensures consistency in accounting practices across the health system.
  • Evaluates and strengthens internal controls over complex accounting areas.
  • Supports compliance with internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with external auditors on technical accounting matters.
  • Supports interim and year-end audits, including preparation of technical documentation and accounting position papers.
  • Leads and mentors the technical accounting team.
  • Provides training and guidance to finance and accounting staff on new accounting standards and complex accounting topics.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in financial reporting processes and technical accounting capabilities.
  • Participates in finance transformation initiatives, ERP implementations, and financial reporting system improvements.

Minimum Education:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting Required

Work Experience:
  • 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience; Experience with technical accounting, financial reporting, or accounting advisory services Required
  • Public accounting experience Preferred
  • Healthcare, hospital system, or not-for-profit experience Preferred

Licenses:
  • Certified Public Accountant Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex accounting analyses and preparing technical accounting documentation
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of healthcare accounting and reimbursement models
  • Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate complex accounting guidance into clear recommendations for leadership
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience interacting with executive leadership and external auditors
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
