Job Description Summary
The Director, US Strategy Prioritization & Governance, supports the US Strategy & Execution organization by operating an integrated governance and portfolio-management process for US strategic initiatives. The role maintains a transparent view of priorities, sequencing, capacity, risks, dependencies, decisions, and outcomes and translates portfolio information into clear, decision-ready insights and recommen-dations for the VP, Head of US Strategy & Execution and relevant leadership forums.
The role manages strategic initiative intake, coordinates cross-functional assessment and prioritization, prepares portfolio reviews and governance materials, tracks deci-sions and follow-through, and continuously improves portfolio-management practices. The Director works across US Business Strategy, Strategic Projects, Transformation, AI & Platform Products, Finance, DDIT, P&O, and other stakeholders to integrate perspectives, identify constraints, and support timely leadership decisions.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and continuously improve the governance process for in-scope US strategic initiatives, including intake, assessment, prioritization, sequencing, portfolio reviews, escalation, decision documentation, and outcome tracking.

- Apply the approved prioritization framework and perform portfolio analysis to develop evidence-based recommendations regarding initiative sequencing, acceleration, consolidation, deferral, or deprioritization.
- Coordinate portfolio reviews and governance forums, preparing decision-ready materials that clearly communicate recommendations, trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and capacity implications.
- Track governance decisions, accountable owners, actions, and follow-through, escalating material changes, risks, resource constraints, or unresolved dependencies as appropriate.
- Partner across Strategy, Transformation, AI & Platform Products, Finance, DDIT, P&O, and other stakeholders to improve portfolio transparency, alignment, reporting, and governance effectiveness.
Essential Requirements:
Education (minimum/desirable):
- Required: Bachelor27s degree in a related field
- Preferred: Advanced degree (Master of Science and/or MBA)
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in strategy, portfolio management, governance, business operations, commercial strategy, transformation, program management, or management consulting.
- Demonstrated experience supporting and operating portfolio governance, prioritization, strategic planning, executive reporting, or decision-support processes within a complex, matrixed organization.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, build alignment, identify trade-offs, and develop data-driven recommendations in support of leadership decision-making.
- Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, scenario analysis, and risk/dependency management skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear and actionable insights.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, commercial, technology, or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience supporting portfolio reviews, strategic initiative governance, transformation programs, or enterprise planning processes.
- Experience improving governance frameworks, reporting capabilities, portfolio-management tools, or decision-support processes.
The salary for this position is expected to range between $185,500.00 and $344,500.00 per year.
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
