Director Storage Platform Engineering, Global Technology Enterprise Platforms -- ScotiaTECH

Lead the end-to-end Engineering function for Enterprise Storage across Data Centers and Cloud environments. This role is accountable for the planning, build, deployment, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of platform capabilities, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, security requirements, and operational resilience objectives.

The Director will lead a team of domain engineering experts and act as the critical bridge between Architecture, Engineering, Operations, Business and Vendors, ensuring scalable, secure, and supportable platform delivery across the enterprise.

  • Build and lead a high-performing storage team of Technology Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of Engineers responsible for Storage Platforms to provide direction and input on:
  • Prioritized initiatives.
  • Infrastructure engineering patterns, principals, frameworks, and standards to align globally approved offerings.
  • Including when standard does not exist today (leads to interaction with business and ScotiaTECH Architecture teams).
  • Participate in specialized Design Councils and the GTEP Architectural Review Board.
  • Acts in a consulting role from ideation through design.


  • Drive talent development, succession planning, and domain depth maturity and foster a culture of:

  • Engineering excellence
  • Planning, build, and deployment of new platform capabilities based on approved enterprise designs, standards, and security requirements. Ensure infrastructure architecture decisions are consistent with the Bank's risk appetite, regulatory obligations (including OSFI expectations), and enterprise resilience standards.
  • Ensures solutions are production-ready, scalable, and operationally supportable prior to release.
  • Drives engineering discipline and consistency across all storage managed platforms.
  • Direct engagement with global constituents to acts as the senior Engineering escalation point for complex infrastructure decisions, trade-offs, and cross-domain conflicts.
  • Is accountable for ensuring quality, accuracy, and currency of the standards references library, infrastructure patterns, principals, and frameworks with categories of coverage aligned with Business and GTS needs
  • Accountable for identifying, investigating, and resolving systemic issues impacting platform stability
  • Establish and execute Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs) to address root causes and improve platform reliability, performance, and supportability.
  • Sponsor engineering-led remediation initiatives for repeat or high-impact incidents.

Capacity & Demand Planning:
  • Lead capacity planning activities in partnership with Operations and LoBs.
  • Ensure platforms meet:
  • Business growth demands
  • Performance requirements
  • Cost optimization targets
  • Align forecasts with investment planning and infrastructure strategy.

Vendor & Managed Service Governance:
  • Ensure all vendors and partners:
  • Adhere to Scotiabank technology standards
  • Meet security and compliance requirements
  • Align with currency and lifecycle management expectations (LCM)
  • Provide engineering oversight for outsourced/managed solutions, ensuring quality, compliance, and performance.

Feature Enablement & Platform Evolution:
  • Accountable for technology feature enablement aligned to Line of Business (LoB) requirements.
  • Ensure platforms evolve to support:
  • New capabilities
  • Security enhancements
  • Automation-first operations
  • Translate business needs into engineering deliverables and platform roadmaps.

Automation & Engineering Efficiency:
  • Drive automation of manual, repetitive, and operationally intensive tasks, including:
  • Configuration drift detection
  • Provisioning workflows
  • Monitoring and remediation actions
  • Improve efficiency, reduce operational risk, and enable scale and consistency.

Financials & Business Case Ownership:
  • Develop and submit business cases for:
  • Capacity expansion
  • Technology currency upgrades
  • Strategic platform investments
  • Partner with GTEP Finance and PMO to ensure funding alignment and execution discipline.
