Director, Scientific Competitive Intelligence & Insights, Oncology

As the Director of Scientific Competitive Intelligence & Insights, you are the driving force transforming complex scientific and competitive data into strategic recommendations for our global oncology portfolio. Your analysis and predictions directly shape R&D and portfolio decisions, helping to advance innovative therapies for patients worldwide. This role is part of the R&D Scientific & Competitive Intelligence team and offers you the opportunity to act as a visionary and catalyst for strategic decisions.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of the Director Scientific Competitive Intelligence & Insights, Oncology are to:

  • Generate forward-looking, strategic insights into competitors, pipelines, and market dynamics, advising global product teams across the entire R&D value chain in Oncology;
  • Translate complex scientific and competitor information into actionable recommendations for portfolio, investment, and licensing decisions;
  • Identify opportunities, risks, and disruption signals (e.g., breakthrough therapies, patent cliffs) and provide proactive forecasts on competitor activities;
  • Conduct deep analyses of competitor pipelines, clinical trials, and technologies, developing competitive landscapes, scenario forecasts, and SWOT analyses;
  • Support strategic decisions by delivering ready executive insights and recommendations for governance meetings;
  • Leverage advanced digital and AI-based tools e.g., perplexity to accelerate data analysis and enable continuous monitoring;
  • Act as a key contact for internal stakeholders and present your results effectively up to senior leadership level;
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts and ensure the quality of CI outputs.


WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required qualifications:

  • University degree, ideally PhD, MD, PharmD, or comparable in life sciences, complemented by long-term experience in the pharmaceutical industry, consulting, competitive intelligence, or strategy;
  • Substantial hands-on experience in oncology competitive intelligence, oncology R&D, or oncology portfolio strategy, with strong knowledge of key peers, emerging modalities, and major clinical and competitive trends;
  • Skilled in using AI and digital tools as well as in analyzing scientific and competitive data sources;
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and creative thinking skills, combined with decisiveness and agility;
  • Team player, highly motivated, and able to work under pressure;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and networking skills and are confident in stakeholder management.


Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 -10+ years in pharma, consulting, CI, or strategy.


Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $174,400.00 - $261,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
