Full Job Description
The Opportunity

As the Head of Site Safety, Security, Health and Environment, you will have overall responsibility for ensuring a safe, compliant and sustainable operation of our campus, including buildings, grounds, manufacturing processes, and utilities. The role includes the formal requirements for Site Security Officer (SSO) and Environmental Health and Safety (SHE) Officer as required by Roche Group governance.

You will ensure the site's continuous Right to Operate and Employee Engagement by developing and sustaining proactive Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SHE) policies and procedures that comply with applicable laws, regulatory agency standards, and Corporate SHE directives. Lead and facilitate site Safety culture to drive excellent SHE performance. You will be part of the Site Leadership Team and report to the VP, Site Head.

During the launch phase of the site, the role will act as the owner/user lead for SHE, advising the capital project on SHE user requirements and sustainability needs. In this phase, the role will also establish all aspects of site SHE program elements and recruit the team responsible for SHE post launch. The role will also closely liaise with the Town of Holly Springs and NC DEQ to establish all post launch permitting requirements for the site.
  • You will partner with Group SHE, Regional/Network SHE, site functions, and other key stakeholders to ensure site compliance with all regulatory agency requirements, and corporate SHE directives.
  • You will partner within the Roche network to identify, share, and adopt best practices that reduce SHE risk at the site.
  • As a member of the site leadership team, you will develop and drive proactive behaviors and mindset that result in an injury free workplace, and demonstrate respect for our people and environment.
  • You will be accountable for all aspects of site security.
  • You will be accountable for ensuring the site Sustainability programs are aligned with Roche corporate goals.Provide strategic leadership for the SHE team including setting the vision and strategy, planning, budgeting, and governance.
  • Ensure continuous innovation to deliver leading edge, fit for purpose Safety and Sustainability solutions to the organization. Leverage digital, insights and technology to deliver innovative and integrated solutions.
  • Understand latest industry and cross-industry trends and proactively match those with the internal needs and requirements. Maintain knowledge of the external environment and other related information on peer and comparison groups to effectively identify emerging topics, implement strategies and build organizational capabilities
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve SHE programs that comply with relevant regulatory agency laws and standards, and Roche Corporate SHE directives.
  • Build and sustain a strong leadership commitment and culture to SHE, that is clearly evident on the shop floor and throughout the organization.
  • Measure, audit, and ensure compliance at the site with all SHE programs.


Who you are:
  • You hold a Bachelor Degree (science, safety, engineering, or industrial hygiene preferred)
  • You have 10 or more years' Safety, Health and Environmental program management and leadership experience in a manufacturing organization in process industries (pharmaceutical, petroleum, chemical, etc.)
  • You have 4 or more years' people management experience
  • You have 4 or more years' experience in a cGMP pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environment
  • You have expert knowledge related to EHS/SHE risk assessment, incident investigation, root cause analysis and management systems
  • You have expert knowledge of SHE regulatory requirements, risk management, and business continuity.


Preferred:
  • Graduate or higher level Degree preferred
  • Hazardous Material and/or professional certification in safety or other relevant discipline is preferred


This role will require full onsite work at the project office before transition to the site offices once complete.

The expected salary range for this position in Holly Springs, NC is $147,000 - $273,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
