Full Job Description
About the Role

Happen Bank is looking for a Director, Quality Engineering & AI to lead our Quality Engineering organization and transform how we use AI to deliver secure, reliable, and high-quality customer experiences. You'll define the quality engineering strategy across our web and mobile applications, originations, and decisioning platforms, with a focus on modernizing how we test, automate, and certify critical systems.

This role will lead the evolution of AI-enabled quality engineering practices in Consumer Engineering, helping teams improve testing effectiveness, accelerate delivery, and identify risk earlier while maintaining the rigor required in a regulated financial environment.

What You'll Do

  • Own the strategy for Quality Engineering across Consumer Engineering, including and especially how AI will transform the role of our quality engineers through test automation
  • Lead and develop QA Engineers supporting our web, mobile, originations and decisioning systems
  • Bring technical depth in test automation to influence Consumer Engineering strategy, critically, knowing and having experimented with means and methods for AI to accelerate the depth of our software testing process
  • Maintain and extend QA's role as the trusted source to approve software releases, certifying release readiness against risk-based testing standards
  • Further develop the quality gates that measurably reduce escaped defects, taking into account our increasingly rapid rate of change using AI coding tools.
  • Partner with Consumer Engineering leaders, who own the quality of the financial and banking software their teams deliver, and across Product, Platform, Risk and business teams to drive complex change
  • Influence platform partners on the testing infrastructure, automation and CI/CD tooling QA teams need to deliver outcomes that scale
  • Use delivery data to focus the organization on the problems worth solving

About You

  • 10+ years of quality engineering or test automation experience, including 6+ years leading and developing teams
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading a quality engineering organization and developing strong technical talent
  • You've owned complex programs spanning multiple teams and organizational boundaries; past experience of testing regulated financial systems is a strong benefit, including lending and banking systems
  • Experience with AI, AI testing tools and strategies. You have hands-on experience using AI tools to improve outcomes and scale the work of others. You're thoughtful about the limitations of AI and where independent human judgment matters most
  • Deep knowledge of testing web and mobile applications and the APIs behind them: Java and JavaScript automation (Playwright, Selenium WebDriver, Appium/Detox, JUnit), CI/CD on Jenkins or equivalent
  • Familiar with the tooling your teams live in: MySQL/Postgres/Oracle, AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, JIRA and Git
  • Deep knowledge of test management tools such as Qmetry or Testrail, what works and what doesn't work
  • Experience supporting financial customer-facing applications and the originations and decisioning systems behind them
  • Strong judgment in balancing delivery speed, customer experience, quality, and risk
  • Ability to communicate technical strategy, risks, tradeoffs, and outcomes clearly and concisely to senior leaders
