Full Job Description
Director, Perioperative Services

The Director of Surgery provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for all perioperative services, including Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Pre-Operative (PreOP), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Endoscopy, Surgery, Sterile Processing Department (SPD), and Interventional Radiology. This role serves as the administrative dyad partner to the Chief of Surgery to ensure alignment between clinical excellence and operational performance.
The Director is accountable for 24/7 oversight of surgical and procedural operations, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, regulatory compliance, and financial sustainability. This leader will drive service line growth, workforce planning, and innovation while fostering a culture of safety, engagement, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate:

Strategic Leadership & Dyad Partnership: Co-leads the surgical service line with the Chief of Surgery. Aligns clinical and operational goals, drives strategic initiatives, supports physician engagement, and plans for future service line expansion.

Operational Oversight: Provides comprehensive oversight of daily operations across all perioperative areas and Interventional Radiology. Ensures efficient patient throughput, resource optimization, and adherence to policies and procedures.

Financial Management: Develops and manages budgets, monitors financial performance, and identifies opportunities for cost containment and revenue growth. Leads financial planning for capital investments and service expansion.

Clinical Quality & Safety: Leads quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and regulatory compliance efforts. Partners with clinical leaders to monitor and improve outcomes.

Staff Management & Development: Leads comprehensive workforce planning, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development for clinical and support staff. Proactively anticipates staffing needs in alignment with hospital growth, service line expansion, and evolving patient care demands.

Physician & Stakeholder Collaboration: Builds and maintains strong relationships with surgeons, proceduralists, clinical, and interdisciplinary teams. Enhances physician satisfaction, quality, and engagement through dyad leadership. Promotes shared governance by empowering clinical staff to actively participate in decision-making, policy development, and practice improvement.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.

Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
