Your Role on the Team

The Director of Korematsu Center administers all finance, human resources and facilities and other operational activities for small to mid-sized academic or research program. Administers major program components, and some or all of the program's operational requirements. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator or more senior Academic Program Officer to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.

Strategic & Litigation Planning
Solicit and respond to advocacy opportunities consistent with the mission of the Korematsu Center to support robust civil rights litigation both in California and nationally, addressing issues at the intersection of race, ethnicity, class, and other protected statuses. Along with Executive Director and Director, engage in priority setting for the Center's advocacy and impact goals. Manage case acceptance review process

Litigation Management
Manage and track the Center's case deadlines, manage case opening and closing procedures, and maintain litigation files. Review processes for conformance with the Rules of Professional Conduct Community Outreach. Develop and maintain relationships with advocacy communities locally and nationally, including public defenders, civil legal aid advocates, and lawyers in private practice, ensuring the work of the Center is advancing broader advocacy strategies. Attend public functions on behalf of the Center, both at the law school and in the larger community Programmatic Development. Work with the Executive Director and Director to design and implement a Student Fellow program, including creation of fellow projects, supervising Student Fellows. Work with Faculty Affiliates and Korematsu Center Non-resident Fellows to develop and implement projects. Work with the UCI Law Clinics and the UCI Law Pro Bono Director to develop joint projects. Develop and maintain relationships with pro bono counsel at law firms, advocacy organizations, and centers on race and law as part of the Race and Law Centers Network.

Report Drafting
Research and draft occasional reports that address inequality in the criminal legal system and in other areas

Fundraising
Support fundraising and development work of the Center, including grant prospecting and grant writing

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $92,400- $130,000 (Annual).

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

• Juris Doctorate
• Active State or DC Bar License; California Bar Admission preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience with trial and appellate litigation focus

Preferred:

• Solid fundraising experience.
• Knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
