The Impact you will have in this role:

As a Director of Software Engineering, you will lead the modernization and evolution of enterprise platforms that support critical business capabilities across the firm. This role combines technical leadership, people leadership, and delivery ownership, helping advance DTCC's cloud and modernization strategy while ensuring reliable execution of current priorities.

You will oversee multiple engineering teams building scalable, high-performance platforms using modern development practices, cloud technologies, containerized architectures, and emerging AI capabilities. Operating at the intersection of technology and business, you will translate complex needs into effective technical solutions and guide teams through change, transformation, and continuous improvement.

This role requires strong executive presence, deep technical credibility, and the ability to apply hands-on technical judgment (architecture and design leadership rather than day-to-day coding).

Your Primary Responsibilities:

Lead & Set Direction
  • Provide inclusive, values-driven leadership that fosters collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate business strategy into clear engineering priorities and technology roadmaps.
  • Inspire teams to challenge conventional approaches and adopt modern ways of working.

Drive Modernization & Technical Excellence
  • Guide cloud-based, full-stack application development, including backend services, APIs, and modern UI frameworks.
  • Lead modernization efforts by re-architecting legacy systems, reducing technical debt, and enabling containerized deployments.
  • Partner with architects and senior engineers on decisions involving cloud platforms, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and emerging AI technologies.
  • Work with the Business System Analyst to ensure designs satisfy functional requirements
  • Ensure solutions meet standards for performance, security, resiliency, scalability, and maintainability.

Own Delivery & People Leadership
  • Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across multiple teams.
  • Own delivery outcomes, balancing near-term execution with long-term platform evolution.
  • Support workforce planning and talent development, with flexibility to assess candidates at Director or AD level based on capability and organizational needs.

Delivery, People & Organizational Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across multiple teams.
  • Own delivery outcomes, ensuring alignment to timelines, quality standards, and business objectives.
  • Balance near-term execution with long-term modernization and platform evolution.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning and talent development, with flexibility to assess and place candidates at Director or AD level depending on capability and organizational need.

Partner & Govern
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, and senior technology leaders.
  • Communicate effectively with executive stakeholders, translating technical complexity into business impact.
  • Integrate risk management, controls, and governance into day-to-day engineering practices.
  • Promote disciplined delivery across CI/CD, quality, testing, and production support.

The salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations. Actual salary is determined based on the role, location, individual experience, skills, and other considerations.
