Full Job Description
About the Team:

Our Infrastructure team builds and operates the environments that enable our robots, and the people creating them to perform at their best. From scaling manufacturing and lab spaces to ensuring safety, reliability, and operational excellence across every site, the team creates the physical foundation that powers innovation and production.

Infrastructure plays a critical role in accelerating execution by delivering world-class workplaces, infrastructure, and operational readiness that allow engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to move faster and scale smarter.

Your Charter:

The Infrastructure team is responsible for building and operating the physical foundation that enables 1X to scale humanoid robotics from development to production. This team ensures our manufacturing sites, labs, warehouses, and workplaces are safe, reliable, and operationally excellent environments where engineering, production, and business teams can move with speed and focus.

As 1X rapidly scales, Infrastructure sits directly on the company's critical path by enabling operational readiness, infrastructure scalability, and execution velocity across every site. The team plays a central role in removing physical and operational bottlenecks, supporting manufacturing growth, and ensuring the environments powering our robots evolve as quickly as the technology itself.

Key Outcomes:
  • Build and lead a security program across our San Carlos and Hayward sites that keeps people safe, protects critical work, and supports fast-moving day-to-day operations without slowing teams down.
  • Create a high-standard on-site security operation with strong coverage, clear escalation paths, and consistent real-time response across incidents, investigations, visitors, and workplace safety situations.
  • Develop and lead a security team that is trusted, operationally sharp, calm under pressure, and capable of handling sensitive situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Partner closely with Facilities, Manufacturing, IT, Legal, and People teams to identify operational risks early, improve site readiness, and strengthen overall workplace safety and resilience.
  • Build scalable security processes, reporting, and emergency response programs that improve visibility, decision-making, and operational readiness as 1X continues to grow.

Key Competencies:
  • Strong operator with experience leading physical security in manufacturing, hardware, robotics, industrial, or other high-risk operational environments.
  • Calm, credible leader who can make fast decisions during active incidents, workplace escalations, emergencies, or other high-pressure situations.
  • Proven ability to build security programs, improve operational rigor, and raise standards across people, processes, systems, and site readiness.
  • Strong cross-functional partner who can work effectively with Facilities, Manufacturing, IT, Legal, People, and executive leadership teams.
  • Hands-on leader who is comfortable being deeply involved in day-to-day site operations while also building long-term strategy and scalable infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in physical security, including experience leading security operations across multiple sites or complex environments.
  • Experience managing on-site security teams, incident response, access control systems, CCTV, visitor management, and guard operations.
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling physical security programs in operationally intensive environments.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong communication, judgment, and de-escalation skills with the ability to operate effectively in highly dynamic environments.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in robotics, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, defense, or other high-consequence industries.
  • Background in corporate security, industrial security, military, law enforcement, or intelligence combined with strong private-sector operating experience.
  • Experience supporting environments with sensitive R&D, prototypes, or intellectual property protection requirements.
  • Familiarity with crisis management, business continuity, executive protection, or emergency response planning.
  • CPP, PSP, or similar security certifications.

Compensation Range:
