Director of Sales - International Wholesale
Jonathan Adler is seeking a strategic, relationship-driven Director of Sales to lead and grow our international wholesale business inclusive of department stores, specialty retailers and distribution partners. This individual will be responsible for nurturing relationships with existing retailers, adding to the network by acquiring new accounts, and driving profitable growth while maintaining the integrity of the Jonathan Adler brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the wholesale strategy across international specialty and department store accounts as well as distribution partners.
- Manage and grow existing partnerships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Build relationships with buyers and senior merchants at premium retailers, distributors, and international partners.
- Negotiate annual business plans, seasonal assortments, pricing, and promotional strategies with key accounts.
- Meet or exceed annual sales and profitability goals across the wholesale business.
- Be the cross-functional lead between Finance, Operations, Merchandising, Product Development, Marketing, to ensure commercial priorities are met.
- Develop accurate sales forecasts and provide market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to internal stakeholders.
- Present seasonal collections to customers and lead major account meetings and line reviews.
- Work closely with Operations and Logistics to ensure timely order fulfillment, inventory availability, and exceptional customer service.
- Manage and mentor a small wholesale sales team (1 direct report), with opportunity to expand the team as the business grows.
- As a senior member of the sales team, provide leadership and support to the company-wide commercial mandate.
Travel
- Attend Maison & Objet (Paris) and other key international trade shows to represent the Jonathan Adler brand and cultivate new business opportunities.
- Travel internationally to meet with existing and prospective specialty retailers, distributors, and department store partners.
- Attend High Point Market, NY NOW, and other domestic trade shows as needed.
- Travel regularly throughout the U.S. to support key specialty accounts and business development initiatives.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of wholesale sales, national account management, or business development experience within the home furnishings, home décor, housewares, furniture, tabletop, gift, or related home industry is required.
- Demonstrated success managing international wholesale accounts is required.
- Experience selling to international specialty retailers, distributors, and department stores across multiple global markets is required.
- Strong existing relationships with buyers and merchants within the home furnishings and home décor industry.
- Proven ability to develop new business while growing existing strategic accounts.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, forecasting, and relationship management skills.
- Highly analytical with a commercial mindset and the ability to balance brand positioning with revenue growth.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working closely with Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 30%)
Salary: The anticipated base salary is $140k-$150k annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, internal equity, and location.
