Job Description

Role Overview

Amex Digital Labs is hiring a Product Director to lead the strategy and development of new products that create value for Card Members and broaden what American Express Membership makes possible. They will identify Card Member needs and opportunities where advances in agentic AI can unlock entirely new products and experiences. They will draw on American Express's membership and lifestyle assets to turn the strongest opportunities into differentiated products. The work could range from transforming how Card Members plan and experience trips to helping them discover events, entertainment, and things to do.

This role requires a seasoned product leader and builder with the judgment to turn ambiguous customer needs into clear product bets, guide 0 to 1 development, and scale the strongest products and underlying capabilities. They will bring hands-on fluency with agentic AI-- enough to prototype, assess feasibility and tradeoffs, and shape products alongside design and engineering. They must also lead and develop a high-performing team, align partners across American Express, and work effectively with external partners.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy, Sense, and Vision
  • Define a product vision grounded in what Card Members need, value, and trust.
  • Identify where agentic AI can create meaningful value in Card Members' lives.
  • Translate human-centered insights, data, and emerging technologies into clear product opportunities.
  • Develop a strong point of view on how new experiences should work, feel, and create value for Card Members.
  • Build and prioritize a portfolio of 0 to 1 opportunities, deciding where to experiment, invest, scale, or stop.

Product Development and Delivery
  • Lead products from customer insight and early concept through prototype, pilot, launch, and scale.
  • Prototype and pressure-test ideas early to test assumptions, learn with customers, and refine the product direction.
  • Work hands-on with design, engineering, and data science to make new ideas tangible.
  • Hold a high bar for product quality, craft, and customer experience while maintaining pace.
  • Build experiences that make advanced technology feel simple, intuitive, and trustworthy.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Influence
  • Lead and develop a high-performing product team with clarity, empathy, and strong product judgment.
  • Align teams around a shared direction without losing the point of view that makes the product distinctive.
  • Bring together design, engineering, data, risk, and business partners to create cohesive customer experiences.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, thoughtful critique, and continuous learning.
  • Influence senior leaders and mobilize stakeholders across a complex enterprise.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive product management experience, including significant ownership of customer-facing digital products, new product development, or emerging-technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing product managers and building high-performing teams.
  • Proven track record of taking 0 to 1 products from customer insight and concept development through launch, iteration, and scale.
  • Strong product sense and experience applying human-centered design, customer research, data, and experimentation to make high-quality decisions.
  • Technical fluency in generative AI, agentic AI, LLMs, APIs, and platforms, with experience working hands-on with design and engineering to prototype ideas and evaluate tradeoffs.
  • Experience defining product strategy and managing a portfolio of opportunities at different stages of maturity.
  • Proven ability to operate in complex, highly regulated environments and align stakeholders across product, design, engineering, data, risk, legal, privacy, compliance, and information security.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and translate complex technologies into clear customer and business outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
